Control Receiver from Smartphone with bluetooth adapter

My receiver is not located in the living where the speakers and TV are. It's in a different room so I can't use a standard infared remote to control it. I've read that there are 3.5 jack or RCA blue tooth adapters that you can hookup to an older receiver and use your smartphone to communicate with to control the receiver. I'm really only interested in controlling the volume.

Can anyone recommend one of these adapters that works well and also what app would be good to use on the phone?

Thanks.

Is this receiver the Denon S750H you mentioned in another thread? It can be controlled with the Denon app if connected to your network via ethernet or wifi.

No. I think you're thinking of someone else. It's a NAD T763 which is at least 20 years old. NAD has an app but my model is not supported. Do I have to have a newer unit that will work with smartphone apps? It's a great receiver. I don't want o buy something new just to control it from my phone but would like to use it for the T763 if possible.

Seriously, I have no life.
Some receiver control apps are good, some are terrible. Search for which is better or use a hub that allows controlling a receiver.

Some remote controls use a hub that doesn't require line of sight, unlike IR.

Apologies, was thinking of somebody else.

Bluetooth won't do anything for avr control even with modern avrs, that would be done via wifi/ethernet as mentioned. On older gear you can perhaps buy a bluetooth receiver/transmitter but that wouldn't control the avr, just permit some music streaming (which is still inferior to wifi/ethernet based streaming).
