Outdoor Speaker Suggestion

Hey y’all,

Figured I would ask here before i purchase. Basically i am looking to set up a budget outdoor system That can be used with Airplay for ease of use. I don’t want Bluetooth. I don’t want battery powered. I am going to be using a Belkin Airplay to analog / digital adapter for $100. I will probably also just use a cheap / used stereo amplifier to keep the cost down probably on eBay or something.

Now as for speakers, they gotta work outside and repel water and snow, because I ain’t taking them down. But would like some decent sound. Doesnt have to be fantastic, nor top of the line but decent. I am gonna hide one in a tree and 2-3 on the deck. SO, what are you recommendations?

Thanks in advance. Hagosrush

Triad has great Outdoor Speakers:

Thanks, but those are a bit out of the budget range.
I have these mounted under the eaves for 8 years now so can't speak to direct exposure to weather (or sun)....I think you just have to count on replacement eventually under such conditions. They have gone up quite a bit in price from when I got mine, think I paid less than $100/pr shipped.

I am probably going to push these under the Deck as it is raised but for that price my heart and wallet are happy. Cheers!

Mine aren't able to do 70V, guess that's part of the reason they cost more now.....same model number, tho....maybe look for one that just works with normal amps (or consider getting a pro style amp that has the 70V option is a thought, too).

Hi,

For a low cost, here's a little setup that won't break the bank and is solid on its own.

OSD AP640 pair

Fosi BT10A Amp (has bluetooth, or any analog RCA intput)

Very best,

You seem to have missed "Basically i am looking to set up a budget outdoor system...".
Without knowing the actual budget, it's hard to say what that word really means. For example, budget to Bill Gates, is different than budget to a middle income family. So unless there's an actual number, it's a guessing game.

Transformers aren't terribly expensive, but you would need a place for them to live when the speakers didn't originally include them. I would almost bet that if you look in the cabinets, you would see some kind of boss for mounting, or at least an open area next to the terminals where they would fit nicely.

This forum is heavily DIY-oriented and the OP did include " I will probably also just use a cheap / used stereo amplifier to keep the cost down probably on eBay or something."- I'm not getting a Bill Gates vibe from the WHOLE post.

We know you're a Triad dealer. We really do.

I don't need the 70V. It doesn't look like these are too friendly to being opened up, either. I was just thinking for 70V and multiple outdoor speakers that might be an idea for OP since he doesn't have the amp yet....

The transformer can be mounted externally, too. If there's a place near each speaker where a plastic junction box can be hidden, that will work fine.
