Speaking of The B-52s (band, that is):
I got to see them on their Wild Planet tour in '82 on the Texas Tech campus. After their opening song, Fred Schneider says, "So, this is Lubbock..." Idiots in the crowd went wild ("He said Lubbock!" *swoon*) but I heard the sneering contempt in his voice and saw the matching eyeroll...

I saw them a couple of times back in the day. Actually ran into him a few times in NYC nightclubs in the early 80s. He was a really nice guy in person but then again I never asked him for an autograph or such. That sometimes sets these types off, sports people too.

Oh, I don't doubt he is a nice guy and seems to be a bit of a smart ass (my kind of people!) but it was clear that, on that night, he was not particularly thrilled to be in the Hub City on the remote Llano Estacato plains.
