15 year old, wasn't plugged in/used for 3-4 years.

I have a recording of the working speaker, kind of cracking high distortion. Nothing out of the other one. These are using his 120w. I have some 10w PA speakers that both work on, so it's probably handling high loads

I brought a 40W PA amp to his house and hooked his speakers to and both sound fine.

Please tell me it's something as easy as bad caps lol

Nice AB amp. Has it's own heatsink fan. Single Package. Wonder if its that. I have the skills to replace it.

Caps DO look good, but might be dried out

CD player also does not work. Tries to read for a second and stops. I'm guessing rubber seat is dried up or belt has dusted/dried up

Here is a recording up close. First was AUX from the TV, other is Tuner

Even turned up high the sound is not nearly enough for that 120w speaker (the one that works anyways)

This product is so non-existent that there are zero photos of that part number online, let alone a manual.

Nobody is going to be able to help you out at all unless you provide photos of the product.

No way in this world I am downloading a random ZIP file from a forum from someone I don't know at all.

You've also hit up a lot of different forums with this exact same very vague question.

In my opinion: It's a 15+ year old piece of technology that nobody gives enough of a damn about to have ever mentioned it ANYWHERE online... EVER! That's a pretty low bar to hit. So, toss it. It wasn't good on day one. Let alone on day 5,000. If it was garbage to begin with, don't waste your time painting it gold.

Ugh I'm trying to save this guy some money, he does not have much.

Oh yeah, you don't have to be a d-ck about it

In fairness, your post is vague and the product has no information. You aren't getting any responses anywhere online... Why do you think that is? It's because someone needs to give you the 'd-ck' answer that you just asked a question like a child. No information, no photos, and a ZIP file? Once again, zip files are the plague of the random website which kills computers.

If you actually want to help this guy, then post photos of the product. Understand that 120 watt speakers aren't really different than 40 watt speakers... the wattage of speakers is about their max power handling capability, not what you 'must' feed them. So, speakers are probably good, but the old product may be the issue. eBay and Craigslist can often offer up real world solutions for almost no money at all.

Heck, I got a really nice AV receiver right on these forums for free (I paid shipping) so I could hook up my niece and nephew with some killer audio.

Deals can be had, and it's good to test speakers with good gear, but it's rough to chase a fix to a bad piece of gear when there is no demand for it. Especially online when you may not know how to test and measure electronics properly. Maybe you do. We don't know.

Yeah sorry, and yes I know about wattage. What I mean is turned all the way up the sharp barely puts out anything to the one working channel, and even then it's distorted. It worked before, but yeah not having been turned in years, I think that the caps connected to the amp IC might have been dried out, oh well. I might mess with it later, dried out caps are generally the weak point, especially if it hasn't been used

I did look through craigslist and saw some possibilities. I was going to fix one of my Sony amps (bad motor on 100k6X motorized pot). Already got it off found it, but it costs $26 + $6 S&H from ali (china). Might make a good project but I don't think it's worth it overall. Also I have to find a knob. Ugh this for an amp that, although is 5.1, has no digital input. Of course this guy has no center speaker and wants no back speakers so, I'll just stick with PCM, already have two PCM to RCA adapters

Sorry didn't mean to be rude. The Zip was just an audio file so you would get an idea of the distortion. Most forums don't allow an M4A extension.

Working on projects is fun, but replacement parts often can cost as much as a used piece of gear may already run you. Not sure where you are located, but in my area, I can pick up a working Sanyo + speakers for under $30. There are a ton of products under $100, or even $50 which would be very solid for a entry level system.

These home theater in a box kit systems are always questionable to begin with, and just hearing that audio isn't loud isn't enough to diagnose an issue. You would need to open it up, take photos of the internals, know how to do all the voltage readings on things and what they mean (which I do not know about) and then hope someone can give some advice on electrical repair.

But, from my viewpoint, unless you really know electronics repairs, I would just toss it in the trash and get a unit which works for $50 or so. A good surround receiver without HDMI can be had for not a lot of cash and will do great for a stereo installation.

Also, PCM is a audio format. RCA is a connector. I think you mean you have a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter). Not sure what devices you are using for a source for this system, but a great deal of older equipment already has analog audio outputs on RCA connections available.

Yeah I mean a DAC, SPDif over Toslink or RCA with an analog stereo output. I just sent an email to someone for $75 for a Sony Amp with coaxal and Toslink

Now I have to figure out his plasma TV slow (hour) boot issue. I already replaced 40 caps on the Main power board and Y board. I'm going to try to take a heat gun to his Z board and see if it makes a difference (cold cap?)

I have a Tape deck, and think I can get a CD player from one of my customers

Yeah I also told him he can use a DVD player as a CD player. I think the amp has the coaxal assigned to CD input

You're in VA according to your website and I'm in TX
