Before it even ended, someone had tweeted "WIll Smith will win an Oscar and have an assault charge in the same night"

Something else must be going on too, because WIll was still worked up during his acceptance speech. His apology seemed more or less sincere, but he was visibly still bothered and likely embarrassed by the situation.

It seems like the kind of reaction Will might have with Chris if it was at another setting. (Not that it was appropriate behavior). They are definitely way too comfortable in front of their Hollywood peers and on TV.

If only Vladimir Putin had been invited to the Oscars.

Will Smith and Chris Rock could welcome him …
while they bring out Volodymyr Zelensky to make the 'Special Presentation'.

That would be worth watching!

Will Smith is a cuck b!tch. He let his wife f@ck other guys, but gets upset about a joke about her hair? Chris Rock should have gone full scorched earth after that bull$hit. Also, Smith hits like a b!tch. Rock wasn't even phased by that.

There is more to this story than meets the eye. Imagine your wife on public television confessing that she bangs your son's best friends for "therapy". That would be debilitating and humiliating for any man.

Will laughed at the joke until his wife gave him a look. He's a defeated man and I pity him.

The joke wasn't that bad. Heck people make fun of my balding head all the time on YT. You're a public figure, grow thicker skin.

Chris Rock handled it like a true professional. Imagine if Dwayne Johnson was the host and cracked that joke, I bet money Will Smith wouldn't have tried that little slap stunt.

What blew my mind is that Will Smith gaslighted the audience shortly after by identifying with the plight of the character he played in the movie he won the Oscar for as if he was the victim and the audience applauded him. His ass should have been escorted out.

Damn I really hadn't been paying attention to all of the backstory.

That is crazy the sh$t she put him through.

Yeah to stay with someone like that after what she did and how she acted about it on public tv after the fact?

It's like that clip I had with Abba and Preach. They said this wasn't about the joke or her hair. They said Chris Rock was the final drop of water in a bucket already full a bucket that Will and Jada filled themselves. And that Will finally snapped from all of that.

After seeing that clip and learning about the backstory man it makes Wills obviously irrational reaction more understandable. Not justified at all it was still unacceptable. That man needs some help some therapy or something.

I don't understand any of this. Will Smith could have simply hired Jussie Smolletts guys.

I am actually surprised they did not ask Will to leave after the incident. No doubt the reason why they didn't is because he was nominated. I am sure nobody really knew what to do. I figured something else was going on there, it wasn't just that joke to get him so worked up.

Have not watched the Oscars for years. Would watch only if Ricky Gervais is hosting.
Looks like I missed something finally...

Have to say, that I love Ricky Gervais. Possibly the funniest host of any awards show.

Freedom of speech can come with consequences. It was a joke, of poor taste or maybe not. But it was most definitely assault. Happens all the time people get arrested and charged for lesser. Was it a insulting joke of Will Smith's wife, sure it was. That's how I see it, other's may not.

This was painful to watch. I have been a Will Smith fan since his rapper days. He brought humor and a "joy de vive" to almost everything he did.

For many years he has looked tormented and unfortunately it seems to point to his wife and marriage. They remind me of Prince Harry and Megan. He's following her script and it conflicts his core.

From what I understand, she was raised in a free spirit way with an open marriage view. He might have agreed to it at first, no doubt because he wanted to play around, but deep down he must have traditional views.
She's been doing interviews in recent times openly talking about being with other men. He seems have been discreet about his flings.

He may be suffering from a deep "cuck" humiliation even if it might be hypocritical for him to feel it.
Will was laughing initially at a poor taste joke (not sure if Rock knew about her condition) but then she gave him a look that forced him to flip out on Rock. He must have known it was wrong by slapping Rock, not punching him.

Just an ugly situation and unfortunately a doomed marriage. IMHO, he needs to get out for his mental health.

The nice thing is they are rich. Money to split and start over. Time for him to try something different.

Yeah, like the old song goes, what's Love got to Do with it. (I am legend) good movie, he is really good in it.
Open marriage, yeah can't be good for the Soul. But than again the movie industry is a dirty business. Casting couch is real, Harvey Weinstein is one of many executive producers of a long line of sexual predators, that abuse their power using coercion of a promised career. When it's their agenda for their own sexual deviances. But they use each other in that industry to have access to their fan base and connections to boost their career. They marry within their circle for those reasons alone. JLo, has been through how many men in that Hollywood circle, they all do it.

This doesn't really apply to comedians. It is their JOB to insult and make fun of people and things. OF COURSE most of what they say will be wrong in someone's eyes all the time. Chris just happened to hit a nerve on a bad situation with the worlds worst possible timing. Yes, they can take it too far, but you know, thick skin and all when you're watching comedy.

Sure it does apply, comedians getting blackballed all the time for some of their jokes and lewdness used on stage. Media people get fired all the time for making statements like he did joking or not, taking out of context or not it is what it is.

I am pretty sure comedians know when they're crossing the line. Bad press still gets your name out there, sometimes it works, sometimes it goes against them. It doesn't give them free reign, but they know that if their job is to make fun of people, sooner or later they are going to piss someone off.
