Denon 1612 - HDMI OUT not showing up through any device

Hi there Im new here, thanks in advance for any help given.

Hoping you can assist, I've had a Denon 1612 for a year or so, used it with my BW 685 s2 speakers, BW HTM62 s2 cetner and the small BW sub, which I used in conjunction with my apple tv and samsung television. It was working perfectly but then recently after unplugging everything and re-installing a couple weeks later I'm having an issue.

The HDMI OUT doesn't want to respond to neither my TV or my computer screen. The apple tv connects fine, I can hear the audio, but nothing is coming out the other end. I've tried the different hdmi cables, different hdmi channels/inputs (on both receiver and tv), I've reset my reciever to factory settings, I've tried to look online - but nothing is giving me any more clarity or hope.

It also doesnt bring up the setup/settings screen on my tv, which perhaps goes without saying... so I can't check settings on the reciever or make any changes to it. Which is frustrating cause I would atleast use it for music via the apple tv but now its not playing anything through the sub or center speaker assumedly because of the reset I did, and I cant get in to change the settings so it plays through these channels.

I think the key here is the unplugging and re-installing. My hunch is that you have damaged the HDMI out port of your receiver. These ports are a PITA and easily damaged.

If that is so, it is bad news, as the way modern gear is constructed you will have to have the whole HDMI board replaced, if one is even available under current chaos.
It is also very expensive. From what you say, I don't think this is anything you can fix. The HDMI system is a disgrace.

What have you found out? I have one more question for you. By any chance is your HDMI cable from your receiver an active cable of any type powered from the HDMI port of your receiver? I note that receiver is an eleven year old model, and it was on the lower end of the food chain. It may be that it was just this receivers time. A unit like that would be on borrowed time after seven to eight years. It is certainly not worth the cost of repair.

Hi all thanks for the feedback!! I think the general conensuc is right - mixture of age and hdmi fragilty leading to the port getting damaged in the unplugging or replugging in.. such a shame when something is otherwise functioning well, but without being able to even access settings now, I guess it's time to put this puppy down...

Any suggestions of a replacement AVR that would do those speakers justice and doesn't cost the price of a small car... ?

Your speakers are fairly small, and effectively 6 ohms. So a lower powered receiver should drive them OK. This one should fit the your needs. I would not go lower down the totem poll than that. You might have trouble finding a receiver though, stock are low to non existent. I would avoid refurbs, as they are higher risk. Gear is going to be hard to come by and so are parts for a considerable period.

Thanks for this! I'm in South Africa so it's even harder to come by... and more pricey to buy stuff with our currency being what it is. Would you consider a Yamaha RX V767 as a worthy companion? There's one for sale at a reasonable price.

I guess if needs must. However that is a 12 year old receiver. So again you have a unit more likely than not nearing the end of its life.

I have no idea of the South African market, so I don't think I can help you any more. I would say, although there are outliers, I have noted that receivers do not tend to be have an inordinately long life. The other issue is that for a receiver that old, parts are very unlikely to be available, so if it fails, repair would not likely be possible.
