Cinema seven signature was precursor to the tga 7401..
It smoked on me and i am looking to replace it…
talked to a ex sunfire employee and sent pics of unit he feels it is un repairable.

was thinking of going with the tga 7401, or possibly the ati 6007..

current 7.1 system consists of all martin logan aside from sub. Prodigy fronts, Theater i center, clarity sides, script i’s rear and velodyne dd-15 sub.
martins are 4 ohms. So system was 600+ watts for 7 channels. And the velodyne is just amazing.

system sounded great with sunfire..but am hesitant to go same with them really no longer existing i found a place that has several new in inventory.
old sunfire employee said that what caused mine to smoke was fixed in later generation.

any opinions?

thanks,
chubbz

As I was saying in your other thread, I know someone who used to own all Sunfire AVP and amps. Now he changed to Marantz AVP + ATI amps + RBH SVTR speakers. :D

For amps, there are so many options (ATI, Parasound, Rotel, Anthem, Bryston, Legacy, etc.). Other than price, I think the 2nd biggest difference will be warranty and customer support. Company reputation and pride of ownership is also a factor for many people.

In terms of sound quality, all of them will sound great depending on your setup.

ATI is a great company and I don't think you'd go wrong there. Monoprice's Monolith amps are also built by ATI and give you an honest 200 wpc (300 wpc @4 ohms) with all channels driven which should be plenty for just about any application.

As ADTG alluded to, there shouldn't be any audible differences in performance between well made amps and I'd go with a combination of best price, sufficient power, good company, good warranty and preferred aesthetics.

My strong advice is to avoid units with more then two and possibly three power amps per case. You have paid the price now. One amp blows and smokes, creating DC off set and you are out seven amps. The other issue is that the power supplies in these amps, are never powerful enough, which I think is at the bottom of a lot of problems.

My advice is to get a neat 19" rack and use pro two channel amps. There is absolutely no reason now, why well designed amps, can not last you a lifetime.

If you bought four of these you would be set for life, and have a spare amp as well.

I have a friend pestering me to repair an Arcam 5 channel amp, that has smoked an amp board and the power supply shuts down because of the DC offset from blown power transistors. The darn thing is so heavy, I can't even lift it. These multi channel amps are only a marginal improvement over receivers.

So, my advice is to do it the right way, which is the pro way.

I have been very pleased with D-Sonic M3a-2800-7
It has 400Wx7 @8ohms, 800Wx7 @4ohms
