Low frequency issue. Null area in living room.

Dear all.,

First and foremost, I believe that I am having very bad acoustic issue. First I though that this all about speakers (which very unlikely at first but... ) but then I convinced that this is all about my room acoustics.

My very modest system contains a pair of Monitor Audio Rx6 driven by Creek Evolution 50A amp and sourced with a Marantz cdp and finally a Bluesound node streaming device.
The problem is the setup of my living room. Now, as the general layout "mandates" I am sitting in the middle of the room and not getting anything lower than 120hz or so ... my listening point creates a null space when I am sitting. If I stand up right at the same place I get very nice response from my system. If I walk around the room.. the bass is there.. but not in my listening position..

I have dowloaded REW and created my listening environment. The response tells everything...If I sit where my couch is, I get nothing... but If I move my couch closer to back wall, I get a very nice low frequency response there. I have used test tones and verified this as well.



I am wiling to add a sub to improve my low end.. It improves a lot ... still bit choppy but not much to do.. here what happens If I add a sub (note that position of the sub is a lace where it can be and where I get best response).

I got tons of questions but I am confused about two facts...

First one... I have tv in between these speakers... It is brand new Sony Oled with acoustic surface audio ... basically it is a 2.1 system .. and probably the subwoofer is very tiny indeed... but here is the thing... that TV produces better low end on my listening position and when I am sitting.... When I am saying better.. of course not loud .. but it is there.. and enjoyable... my setup sounds fine but almost no bass when I am sitting .. It creates a very decent bass everywhere except my ears when I am sitting.. I dont really understand how my decent hifi system creates a null spot in the room but that TV not.

Should I have to add a subwoofer ... Is this some kind a curse to sit in the middle of room and listen music without a sub?

Not a curse, but it is where the soundwaves are interacting and canceling. You will experience this most strongly at the mid point. Can also have issues at 1/3s, 1/4s...
Breaking the room into fifths, these issues become less potent.

But still... what if you move back 1 foot?

Welp, I'd say you figured it out. Room acoustics. Your room is completely in charge of the bass response and not the fault of your speakers. The only real fix is what you figured out and that's to move the listening position. A subwoofer may help, but again, the room is in charge of where it's going to work best and it's not always where it works best for you. You have to be a little flexible if you really want good bass.

Center of the room is NOT the ideal location, in particular if your room happens to be a square footprint or worse, square. A guy bought one of my old subs and he said "No sub performs well in this room." I thought that was odd until I saw it, it was literally square. Unfortunately, that issue was going to continue for that room. Home audio is not about perfect scenarios noted in the guidelines. Those are just that, guidelines to start with. Every room is different and may require experimentation to get the best sound. Smaller rooms tend to have a harder time with bass because of the higher probability of cancellation.

Guys, thats fine … it is all about room acoustics and yes nothing about speakers at all as I used them at my old house and they were great there..

But let me understand one thing .. how this tv sounds then? We are in the same room and i am sitting at the same place.

I am not sure about if i can change my seating position dramatically as this is almost all about furnishings, design and wife factor at all ..
