Speaker Calibration Question

I'm interested in adding a Parasound A31 to an existing Pioneer Elite SC-61 using the pre outs. The speakers I'm using are Paradigm Monitor 11's and running 5.2. I'm only interested in using the Parasound 3 channel amp for the front stage only. My question is, should I run Pioneer's MCACC calibration after I do this? I haven't moved any of my speakers and was always told only to run calibration is you have moved your speakers. Any thoughts would be awesome.

Yes re-running MCACC would adjust for gain differences between the internal amps you calibrated for vs the external you've added.

Ok perfect, should I do anything internally to the Pioneer like tell it NO to front's and center or should I leave that alone?

Just run it like you normally would if the amp wasn't in the mix. You shouldn't have to change anything.

You'll still need the L/R speakers with the external amp, so you don't want to turn them off :). If only going to 2.1 now then you could turn off the center....

I mean after I connect the 3 channel amp to the Pioneer pre outs do I re run Pioneers MCACC
You should run it. There may be a difference in the gain structure (volume) of your new amp vs the ones in your receiver. Running MCACC again will make sure your levels are right.

Sounds good, will do! Just wasn't sure If I needed to make setting changes to the Pioneer before I run MCACC.

Nope. Just make sure everything is connected correctly and double check for stray strands of speaker wire sticking out where it shouldn't be. That can make for a bad day for your new amp!

Or passive bi-amping without the right connections :)

Thanks again! Speaker strands shouldn't be a problem as I'm using banana plugs to connect. From there its RCA's from the amp to the pre outs and connect a 12v trigger between the two. I'm hoping that will do the trick!
