Servo 120 - Power Amplifier purpose

A friend is selling his building and the club/bar that was there has a few of these power amplifiers lying around and he asked me if I wanted one. Is this something that could be useful to our home theatre system (amp and receiver with 5.1 speakers)? If yes, how?

Not very powerful altho spec generally would be acceptable, so somewhat depends on your needs. Might consider possibilities for fan noise, too.

What does this even do? He dropped it off last night since he is getting rid of stuff and I am not sure what the purpose of it is.

It's a power amplifier. What gear do have already? If your avr has pre-outs you could use it, or perhaps to power zone 2 speakers or....

It actually says on the website what it is, what it can be used for, and the power and more. The cut sheet tells you some specific applications...

What YOU may choose to use it for, if you have any use for it at all, is entirely different.

The amp is not very powerful, as already stated, but it is not bad either. It is 50 watts per channel (more or less) into 8 ohm speakers. So, if you have a source, like a Bluetooth receiver, and you plug it into the back of the amplifier, you could use it to run a pair of speakers for stereo audio in a room.

The power output of the amp can drive two speakers (stereo) at reasonable listening levels. It's not a high power amp, but meant for lower power usage situations. So, a smaller room, or similar. It can also be used to drive a pair of in ceiling speakers (or two pairs) for general background music playback without issue. A pair of speakers in the garage for example.

A typical setup, similar to what I mentioned above...
Bluetooth receiver: https://www.amazon.com/1Mii-Bluetooth-Receiver-Wireless-Surround/dp/B07KTK8YP3/ref=sr_1_4
Plug the 3.5mm stereo to RCA cable (that should come with it) into the RCA inputs on the back of the amplifier.
Use some speaker wire, at least 16 gauge, to go from the output of your amplifier to some speakers.
Speaker wire: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-16-Gauge-Speaker-Wire-Feet/dp/B006LW0W5Y/ref=sr_1_1
Speakers: https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/polkt15blk/polk-audio-t15-5.25-2-way-bookshelf-speaker-black-pair/1.html

Now, any single one of those items has a ton of options to it. You could hook up a CD player instead of a Bluetooth receiver. You could hook up your phone directly to the amplifier. You could hook up your cable box (if it has RCA audio outputs). But speakers are ALL over the place! You have a ton of choices in terms of speakers. You can get in-ceiling or in-wall speakers. I linked to a relatively cheap set of bookshelf speakers. But, there are cheaper ones out there, especially the used market and Craigslist has stuff all the time. But, you can go with a larger, or nicer set, and things will still sound really good (don't overdrive them!).

Hopefully that gives you some idea of what is going on here. It is important to ask some questions and try to be specific about what it is you don't understand. Ask, ask, ask, ask, ask!!! That's okay. Most people today think that speakers are these things that have batteries in them, you charge them up and connect via Bluetooth, and you are good to go. That's NOT a speaker. That's a speaker, a bluetooth receiver, a amplifier, and a battery pack all in one unit. Others think of speakers as things you plug into a wall and connect to your computer. Those also are NOT speakers. They are speakers and a amplifier. Speakers are literally JUST the units that play back the audio. The amplifier gets them the power they need.
