Hey guys,
I have a basic question... I have 5 BW AM 1 speakers in my workout room connected to a SVS SB1000 pairing with a Marantz 5013. What power amp would get for this setup? I got some ideas from here but I'm not sure. It’s not loud enough so that’s why I thought I would get a power amp. o_O

Anyone has ideas of it? Thank you in advance.:)

How loud do you want it? How big is the room, and how far away from the speakers are you when listening to the sound? How are the speakers laid out (5.1 Dolby set up at ear level?) What is the source material. Are you looking for abnormally dominant Bass? Where is the Sub located? Are you running the system in a surround mode? Please advise speaker cable run length and gauge. Details please.

The Marantz 5013 is 100 Watts per Channel which is decent for most folks. Those BW AM 1 speakers are probably the limiting factor at a sensitivity of 86dB (2.83V, 1m) as far as loudness goes. But depending on the above they could get pretty loud. They are rated at a maximum of 100 Watts, so more amplifier is not really going to help you.

Please advise more information so the gents here can assist.

Your Marantz does not come with any pre outs.

We also find 7 speakers connectors enough for a 7.2 or a 5.1.2 audio setups. All connectors has different colors for easy identification. As for all the other connections we get 2 coaxial and 2 optical digital audio inputs, 1 Ethernet port for wired connection to the Internet, 1 remote control input and 1 output, 2 composite video inputs and 1 output, 2 component video inputs and 1 output, 4 analogue stereo inputs, 1 dedicated phono analogue input, pre-out coaxial connections, 2 subwoofer inputs, 7.1 channel analogue connections, a signal ground connector, antenna connectors, a 12V DC output, a RS-232C connector and an IR input.

Therefor there is zero connections for an external Power Amp, which is understandable considering your Marantz 5013, is really only a budget entry level model. You say there is not enough volume being produced from your Marantz. You will read that the 5013 can produce 180 watts what they don't tell you is that's ONE channel driven, At the end of the day you would be lucky if the things producing 25 watts per channel with a strong wind behind it.

. I read your link on power amps, Let me tell you there cheap Chinese toys, Don't spend your money on that sort of rubbish, Do A bit of research and visit some Hi-FI showrooms and you will see just what's available. Power amps are not cheap and in the event you get an AVR with Pre-out's you would be looking at a model with 5 channels. Or simply get a twin channel PA and just use it on your front L & R speakers. There-by taking the load of your AVR's internal amp's

That is not correct, the Marantz does have 7.2 pre outs.

The real issue is, if his goal is to listen at louder level, adding a power amp may not be the answer as HD alluded to. We need more info from him.

What have you set the volume to so far in order to get the loud enough level you need?

We can suggest something if we have the information, will also help if you tell us your seating distance as well. Or better still, if you also use an online spl calculator to estimate your power need.

As to getting a power amp for those speakers, I'd probably get better speakers first.

ps You using these outdoors as intended?
