We consume more energy than we have of our own at this time. Maybe if we had moved more into alternatives/renewables instead of propping up the oil gangsters (largely US companies).....

I'll disregard the first bit of word salad and address the gas price issue. Maybe you aren't aware, but the price of fuel is going up all around the world. The Biden administration isn't responsible for that. Crude oil prices have been on an upward trajectory for several months. The latest massive increases in crude oil prices - with rising gas prices as a consequence - have one main (Putin) cause, with two parts.
A) The Russian invasion of Ukraine - because the markets don't like instability.
B) Sanctions against Russia, as a consequence of said invasion. If you'd prefer to drop sanctions in favour of cheaper gas, that's a very short-sighted and selfish attitude.

Here's some more perspective on how the price of oil is determined It is helpful to remember that oil companies are looking at long term horizons when they are deciding to either invest their capital or sit on it. They are ablsolutely all the time looking at which way the political winds blow.

To save some time, here is the money section on US Energy Policy, Feb 2018 when things were less distorted by current events and narratives.

President Trump’s decision to deregulate the US oil industry came at a time when the nation was already challenging some of the big hitters for the crown of world’s biggest oil producer. The country was by far the world’s biggest oil consumer for a long time, but new technology meant the advent of deep offshore fields and onshore shale oil sites spurred a boom in domestic US production. 2. That Biden pretty much reversed Trump's Energy Policy the day he took office which put us in line with Europe
3. What would happen to prices if we deregulated again?
