Any PCP airgun rifle users?

While I always wanted an airgun as a kid, the best I got was some weak-ass Daisy (IIRC). Then anything beyond that more' about losing my brother's eyes....and I really have no ide where that would have come from, totally mystified, parents must have had a daft episode....ya know.

Lately I saw some videos on the iguana elimination (non native species invasion pests) and the guns they were using.. Fascinating! I like the idea of plinking more silently than not (e.g. like doing in my own yard). Discover a whole world of options. Just ordered a set of rifle/scope/pump/pellets for an Umarex Gauntlet .22. Not here for a week so....just thought I'd see if any other users and experiences.

I know exactly where you are coming from. My parents wouldn't buy me a BB gun but they did buy my brother and me a real bow & arrow set and Estes rocket sets that can set a good fire indoors if you're my brother.
Yeah, it was the 1960s.

I have a pump action Crossman air gun that shoots .17 pellets bought many years ago. Its great for "bothering" pests in the backyard. Its fairly powerful if you pump 10 times. Have not killed anything with it. Use it mostly to make skunks who dig up the lawn and chipmunks who dig near the foundation of the house very uncomfortable.
The pump action takes too much time between shots so would be interested to upgrade to something with an air tank.

Good hunting.

I’ve been interested in pcp’s too. I used a crossman .177 10 pump for a looong time. Plinking around the yard but mostly red squirrels and chipmunks. That thing is super accurate(for what it is lol). But the 10 pump thing, I’m over. I finally bought a .22 cal 10 round break barrel repeater from GAMO. I am so in love with it, it’s not even funny. I shoot 14.3gr mostly. But I don’t want extra muzzle velocity since my neighborhood is fairly populated. Big heavy lead is a little slower but hits like a baseball. I will possibly get a pcp soon. All my kids love to plink around so we have lots of fun. They have their own rifles too.

Go big, or go home-

I got a Daisy single pump BB gun for Christmas along with the stamped metal target which had a hole in the center, shaped like a U and the tab bent back so the BB could hit the bell on the backside. NEVER USE ONE OF THESE UNLESS THERE'S PLENTY OF FRESH CORRUGATED CARDBOARD IN FRONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know the scene in Christmas Story where Ralphie almost shoots his eye out? A BB bounced straight back and hit me on the edge of my right eye socket. Scared the fertilizer out of me and I never used it again- I think I quietly threw it in the garbage.

That gun was great, until it wasn't. When I was cleaning out my parents house after Dad passed, I found it in the closet near the back door and thought I would try it. If you have ever seen cartoons of someone firing a gun and the slug falls to the ground, in a short arc, about 4' from the end of the barrel, that's about what it would have looked like. My Crossman pistol OTOH, uses CO2 cartridges and has three positions for the plunger- at the highest setting, it's pretty powerful and fairly accurate.

Should be included automatically with ever BB gun lol. My squirrel plinker is a Savage .17HMR with a Vortex Viper scope.

I have that same Caldwell bag set in that video.

Do you have those glasses? Do they distort vision when you move your head from side to side? I can't stand that.

The price is very reasonable.

I have two sets of them, yes. No distortion that I've ever noticed. It is nice they include all the easy to swap colored lenses for all conditions too at that price too. I typically use the yellow. My grandson's other grandfather gave him a Daisy. I bought him a set of these too, and a little plinker trap target.

No real need for a .50, not planning on hunting, altho there's a few feral cats around here I wouldn't mind getting rid of. I settled on .22 as a decent compromise for a starter kit for my purposes. I passed on the bigger pcp cartridge in the Gauntlet 2 version, too.

WRT feral cats- they do a really good job of keeping the vermin population down and when the cats suddenly leave the area, the other animal population can explode since they breed so fast. We had cats here until one woman complained often enough that the police came to the house next to mine and told the retired 85 year old that he had to stop feeding them. He had also trapped them to take them in for checkups/shots/fixing before release.

OTOH, if the cats are gone, you will have a target rich environment.

Might bring the bird population up....but have no plans to hunt them particularly
but they use a big stone flower box of mine to to sh*t in, and find bird feathers frequently on the porch next to that,so if the right moment comes up.....but there are several in any case. Got other existing predators for rodents other than housecats turned feral...

Cayenne pepper flakes and ammonia are two good ways to repel cats & other small animals.

I've tried the pepper, peppermint & tea tree essential oils, coffee grounds and a few other things. They keep coming back. Maybe if I had a dog....but then that's just more sh*t to clean up :)

Was just going to say, a dog would solve that issue. It won't necessarily get rid of them, but they won't be crapping in your planter.

No, just around the rest of the yard unless I follow it around with a baggie! :) While I love dogs, I'm more like a grandpa where it's nice if they visit or you play with them for a while, but kinda nice not having to live with them particularly :) ....altho I've been weakening and have been looking at available rescue dogs (a friend just got an awful cute Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy recently).
