Single 9 channel amp, or 6 and 3 channel amps?

Which is the better option for powering my 9.3.4 set up?

I've already got a 5 channel amp (Outlaw 5000) to power my 4 Atmos speakers (RSL C34E MKII) once I install them.

So I'm looking at either the Monolith 9 channel (3 × 200 watt, 6 × 100 watt) to power my LCR and surround speakers. Or the VTV NC252MP 3 ×250 watt per channel, and the VTV NC122MP 6 × 125 watt per channel.

Paradigm Premiere 800F/600C are my LCR , and KEF Q150 are my surrounds.

Either option has more than enough power for what I need (based on my required SPL at the MLP), but is it better to have separate amps to power the LCR and surrounds, or would it not matter and the Monolith will be fine? Price wise the Monolith is slightly cheaper, but I'm not concerned about that tbh.

So you've got 13 speakers going in there! You got a lot going on. Either option would be fine with no real audible differences in performance. Personally I'd just get the Monolith and be done with it.

Hypex ncore amps are the standard of quiet elegance in design and bench measurements. Only purifi amps exceed. Monolith—meh.

Both Monoliths and VTV amps are excellent amps.

Since the Monoliths are less expensive, you could opt for them to save money. Should you proceed with Monolith, either the 3 + 6 channel units or the 9 channel amp would be fine. However, there is a slight advantage with two separate units, as if one gets defective, you can still use a few more amps than having to do without 9 channels simultaneously.

The Monolith is 2700$ Canadian Pesos + tax (~3000$) shipped from a Canadian distributor (the same one I bought my pre pro from).

The VTV are 2430$ US plus taxes and duty (not sure how much duty, but with taxes and exchange it's about 3460$ Canadian). Probably ~3600$ for the VTV amps.

So ~600$ more for the VTV. I don't mind paying that if it's a better option.

I could look up the duties but that wouldn't include brokerage fees (am an ex US Customsbroker), that would depend on shipping terms. Seems the Monolith is more the better way to go unless you like the higher power options for surrounds....which would depend on your distance from the surrounds and expected spl levels....

Surround speakers never require comparable power with the three main channels. In most situations, less than 10 watts peak are required for surround speakers, and obviously nobody needs 200 watts for them. Also, most surround speakers can't handle that kind of power.

Generally agree. Some do like that awful all channel stereo mode, which can change that scenario, tho....as well as speakers' impedance and distance from seating and spl levels and all that good stuff.

I think I'll probably go with the VTV amps. For a few reasons:

1) it's always good to have the extra power, even if I'll never need/use it.

2) as @Verdinut said if one amp has issues down the road, I can still use the other VS the one unit 9 channel Monolith.

3) I like the looks of the VTV better.

4) size and space savings of the VTV vs the Monolith.
