Germany is halting the controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline in light of Russia’s incursion into Ukraine, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.

The undersea pipeline, meant to ferry natural gas directly from Russia to northern Germany, is owned by a subsidiary of Russia’s state-owned Gazprom. Berlin has previously been reluctant to impose sanctions that would affect Nord Stream 2.

But at a press conference Tuesday, Scholz said that “the situation today is fundamentally different and therefore, in light of recent events, we must also reassess this situation … also with regard to Nord Stream 2.”

He said he had asked the German economy ministry to withdraw a binding opinion from October last year that stated the pipeline posed no security-of-supply threats.

“This sounds technical, but it is the necessary administrative step so that no certification of the pipeline can now take place,” Scholz added. “And without this certification, Nord Stream 2 cannot go into operation.”

Shortly after, the economy ministry announced it was halting the certification process.

That's actually funny but also highlights how irrational some Americans can be in the use of propaganda.

Let's do photos of Washington DC in 1608 and 1492 next....

If someone comes up with a petition to give DC back to the Powhatans or Nacotchtanks I'd consider signing.

Yeah, I know. It's just that the Russian rhetoric has Ukraine being historically part of Russia, which is very much open to interpretation. I thought it was funny.

Is the pipeline already in place but not operating or in design phase or after design but not started placing the pipeline?

The Nord Stream 2 subsea pipeline to German was completed last autumn but it has not yet been certified, and there might be other work needed to be done as well before use. The German government has to be careful how they legally extract themselves from the pipeline deal.

Been trying to follow as closely as I can. From what I'm understanding the US and other nations plan on going after Russia with sanctions especially targeted against the Russian banks

They won't hit them were it really hurts which is there oil and gas industry because that will hurt several nations which are dependent on the energy in Nato.

Help me understand this guy's but from what I've been able to tell this will hurt Russia but more the everyday citizen the elites like Putin will be able to ride this out considering they have interests tied into Western ventures

Seems like Putin knows this and is prepared to ride this out. I don't see how you stop him with the type of sanctions we are using. If we do stop him with sanctions it seems like they would have to be in the sectors that matter the most and that would require all of us to accept a level of living much different then where we are at now

We really got to get Western nations including the US away from dependency on these countries for manufacturing and energy down the road that has to happen

Isn't Russia trying to seize land to gain leverage over NATO?

Gutfeld
- if we didn't want to send troops directly in to to fight Russia (protection the Eastern border instead), were the sanctions too weak or what? Gutfeld's crew never really go into that.

- it's weird the one video says referring to none of this violence happened in Russia but Ukraine. Ok so do we just let Russia take Ukraine? I mean it seems disingenuous to not ask that question.

Prior to Monday, one of Putin's goals was trying to divide and split NATO from within. Going forward, he'll take it day by day.

Gutfeld's segment would probably not give you solutions to the sanctions questions.

Your last question is a good one. If a compelling case can be made by the Biden Administration(BA) to go into the Ukraine, I think the American people and many NATO countries would listen and support it. Unfortunately, the BA is no position to do that.

I'm still convinced that NATO will not directly intervene militarily. The risks of escalation are too high and the consequences of escalation are to horrific to contemplate.

Strong economic sanctions - including freezing assets - against key Russian leaders and oligarchs need to be enacted. Should Russia invade the rest of Ukraine - complete economic embargo. The only exports they have with significant value are oil/gas and weapons. Any countries who buy from Russia - embargo for them, as well. It has to be draconian and Putin needs to know it will happen.

Of course, it's not that simple. We've tied ourselves to trade with China and they aren't going to stop trading with Russia at our behest.

That's what they telling us for now. Wars have a tendency to escalate beyond what the experts strategized pre battle.

Do you not think that some "we are not officially here" boots might already be there? It would be stupid if that was not the case.
