Thinking of upgrading to an RX-Z7 (instead of an RX-A3040)

Am I crazy?

I have an RX-A810 right now. I've dug my heels into 1080p and am staying there. No HDR, no 3D, no 4K, no dolby atmos or DTS:X, no 9 or 11 or 13 speakers. 7.2 and done.
I might be able to find one at the right price. I know the RX-Z7 is up there in terms of sound quality. The alternative would be an RX-A3040 that I've had my eyes on. The RX-A3040 seems to have more/better tech, and the RX-Z7 seems to have superior sound quality.

What do y'all think?

How/why would the RXZ7 be better? I think you're reading too many "reviews"

IMO, you could go back to even the RX A3000 and get better value for money. They are @ 400 to 500 second hand. 140W x 7.

On paper, the RX-Z9 and the RX-Z11 are indeed superior if use as power amp. The RX-Z7 is not really any better than the RX-A3040, in fact based on S&V's measurements, the RX-Z7 is less powerful.

Indeed it looks like the RX-Z11 is the super-receiver I should be looking for.

Just don't pay too much for it though, keep in mind you can get a brand new 4 channel 350/5000 W Hypex amp for $1,099 but that is only if you want to use the receiver as a power amp.

Are we talking about POWER OUTPUT or SOUND QUALITY?

Sound quality and power output. The M65 I use as a dedicated 2-channel amplifier gives me plenty of power from the rx-a810. An rx-z11 could replace both of them, and I could use it as a dedicated receiver including the pre-amp, as I don't need any video features offered beyond SDR 1080p. Dolby Atmos would be nice, although I'm not sure my WDTV would pass that through even.
