Thanks so much for all the help and input, you guys are funny. Btw, I went in a rather simple direction and bought another cd player off ebay for cheap. You all are not only funny, but very willing to help out, which is much appreciated. Watch out for those ill-egals, they are everywhere. Just remember, you gotta have fun, because if you don't have any fun, then you don't have any fun.
For what it's worth, since you only have a stereo setup, what you could have gotten was a basic HDMI audio extractor. They are around 20 bucks on Amazon. They work perfectly fine for exactly what you needed to do. If your CD player dies or doesn't work out long term, give something like this a try...

Something similar and essentially the same was suggested on page one before things took a turn in an unfortunate direction.

Yes, but what was suggested was a HDMI audio extractor with integrated DSP. Nice, but $150 more money, which makes it cost prohibitive for this specific use case. I didn't see anyone offer up the most basic and affordable solution which was available. I'm a big fan of just giving a nice basic solution before we plunge into pricey new product when it isn't necessarily the right way to go.

Yeah, a pricey option with bells and whistles was thrown out there. His heart was in the right place. Cheaper still for some to find an old player, though extra cables, ports and outlets are necessary in either case. Analog is all but gone from new players and it’s crazy what it costs to get them.
