The Onkyo TX-NR6100 & The Costco TX-NR6050 Are The Same Receiver...

I think they are probably the exact same receivers, they are most likely just software limited. I wonder if you could upload the 6100 firmware to the 6050 and it would unlock the 10 extra watts of power and the THX Certification... They both draw 635 Watts and the rear and front panels are identical.

I have the TX-NR6050 and keep putting off a thread about it. The poor thing didn't even get an original manual and info for the TX-NR6100 can be found in it. I think the ten less watts is a fib. It did lose the THX certification and the relative volume display option but you'd never know it from the manual. I wouldn't spend the extra money for the TX-NR6100. The 6050 cannot be beat when comparing feature set and price to other comparable AVRs. If one wants THX, Dirac and 9.1 channels, I'd go up to and stop at the TX-NR7100.

I don't think it would brick it, per the Onkyo manual it states it would just give an error code if it was for the wrong model see below.

"Error Code * -14 - The firmware file was not found in the root folder of the USB device, or the firmware file is for another model. Retry and download the file on the support page of the web site, following the on-site instructions. If the error persists, please contact Onkyo Support (indicated in the last page) and provide the error code."

I would hope the differences are small.
This reminds me of Home Depot and power tools. The big name drill you get at home depot, vs same model at your local hardware store are generally not the same. Same looks on the outside but the HD one has cheaper components and costs less.
Per Treb's comments I would stick with the 6050.

Welp I just discovered this, the download links for the 6050 firmware and the 6100 firmware are exactly the same link. I guess this proves they are the exact same unit. Unless there is something in the internal code in the firmware that identifies each individual model, I think its safe to say they are the same. Is there an option to select THX Cinema in the settings? Can you get this to appear on the display?

No, THX Select is nowhere to be found in the TX-NR6050. It can be frustrating for somebody going over the manual because the THX info is still there.

That's crazy. Im waiting for mine to get here I wonder if there is a way to test peak output with a multimeter to see if it matches the 6100's output.

I think you will enjoy it. I'd be lying if I said it was glitch free. But, the Yamaha and Denon I returned to Costco weren't perfect either. Anybody upgrading from the TX-NR696 should be happy with the addition of the HDMI 2.1 features. They did change a few things that might bug some. They added "Pure Audio" as a mode, but didn't put a "Pure Audio" button on the remote control or in the app. It can only be selected after multiple presses of the MUSIC button. It's maddening! But, a cool blue light comes on when it is activated.

Heads up for anybody getting this receiver. I do like that so many tweaks can be made using the buttons on the front of the unit, using the GUI or using the app. BUT! Some settings concerning Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and other HDMI 2.1 specific settings can only be made using the Web Setup feature. Connect the unit to your network, perform any updates and then get on a browser and type in the IP address. Onkyo smartly added the address to the information displayed after a few presses of the info button on the remote control and/or in the app's version of the remote control.

Onkyo updated their receivers a while ago to ask for login info for every attempt to access web setup. The default User Name and Password are "ciuser." Denon and Yamaha don't care and saving the IP address of those units allows for quick access of their web setup menus. It's not enough to make a bunch of changes in the web setup of the Onkyo for them to stick. You have to remember to go and store them or nothing will change. Once all of the desired settings are made and stored, you can press print for a hard copy to file away in case of a hard reset in the future.

Currently I have a TX-NR737 is the power output similar?

Waste of time! 10 Watts is completely inconsequential! You need to DOUBLE the power for a 3dB increase in output audio power (by definition / math). Refardless, a multi-meter is NOT the right tool for that job.

They are most likely the same receiver, just got a different part number to differentiate the Costco model.

Trebdp83, You returned the Denon back to Costco why? I have the the Denon 760H and Onkyo 6050, unopened in my computer room trying to find out which one to keep? Can you give me a little insight? TIA.

Hello and welcome to the forums. I'll link a thread at the bottom of the post detailing the sorted tale of it all. Start on the last page and work your way back. I have returned both a Denon AVR-S760H and a Yamaha TSR-700 to Costco. Afterward, Yamaha sent me a free RX-V6A to tinker with and discuss with them. The Denon was nice and I really wanted to keep it around but the Onkyo beat it out based on some features I personally wanted to use for myself and my array of devices. Pour yourself a drink and have at it.
