Can I Bi-Amp my speakers by adding a stereo amp to my setup?

I have an Onkyo TX-RZ730 9 channel AVR. I am running a 7.2.2 Atmos setup with 2 Dolby Height modules. If I wanted to bi-Amp my front speakers, could I do that by adding a stereo amplifier to my AVR? If so, is this worth doing, or am I wasting my time and money?

Better off just using only the external amp then and not bi-amping.

I'm not a big fan of Emotiva for the long term myself. I'd look elsewhere, but that's me for a few reasons

Whats the budget? What speakers?

I just bought a pair of Polk R700's for the front left and right channels. I don't have a budget, but I'm not interested in spending $10k either. Do you have a recommendation?

Welcome to AH. :)

Yes, you better not think of such expensive amps. Crown has some good ones.
By the way, is there a shortcoming in that system? Not loud enough? That might be a good reason, otherwise, not so much.

Why don’t you look at the recent forum string called Class D amps on this website?

Congrats on the speakers, just checked out shadyJ's review of those the other day. They sound like very nice speakers. Keep in mind what he mentioned in the review:
"The bottom line from the impedance and phase graph is that pretty much any normal amplifier will be able to handle these speakers with no problem."
"Users will not need a monster amp for these speakers to get loud. However, they should be able to take a good deal of power if a beefy amp is available."

So what are your particular goals here? Try using this to help estimate your needs http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html

If you really need an amp, there's a variety out there, but yeah $10k would be a bit silly. Maybe two of the Outlaw 2220s. Maybe a Crown XLS 1502. One of the amps from Buckeye or VTV (probably mentioned in that class D thread mentioned)....the newer Purifi and Hypex modules sure seem to make for a nice powerful modestly priced amp....

I'm not sure I even need an external Amp. I just want to ensure that the speakers are driven properly and deliver their full potential. I got the TX-RZ730 for really cheap ($500) and so I thought a better external Amp might help these speakers sound better. Am I chasing a ghost?

Yes the avr alone can drive the speakers properly. I don't know what you mean by "their full potential" particularly.....do you plan to push these to their limits? Might try to estimate what they are before buying something....try that spl calculator I linked to start. Report back on the numbers.

This is what I got. It looks like I'll be just fine. Thanks for the advice. I was thinking a might get better sound quality with external amplification, but I think I'm good now.
