hi
I'm recording some audio from my mid 2011 macbook from the digital output toslink to a sony
RCD-W100 audio cd burner from the tidal website and some of the tracks are "master" quality.
some or "hifi" quality. (I'm not sure of audio quality used here)
What settings should I have in my Audio and midi setup?
if set more than 32/48hZ, it stops hearing anything
I read my macbook is natively 24/96,
So I'm wondering if I should send higher resolution to the sony and let it reduce its thing,
or if I should send the same quality to avoid it to do anything.
thanks for your help

TIDAL HiFi provides uncompressed lossless sound quality, streaming at 1411kbps or 16-Bit / 44.1 kHz. Master Quality audio reflects the original source and can stream up to 9216 kbps or 24-Bit / 192 kHz (typically 96 kHz / 24 bit).

So if a track from tidal app is playing at 24/192 my macbook brings it down to the current setting I have 32/48 and then the sony brings it down to 16/44 for cd compatibility ? just looking to understand how to get the best final result

Seriously, I have no life.

First of all you DO NOT use a CD recorder. You need a DAW, Digital Audio Workstation.

Sounds very complicated. In a car I prefer a thumb drive to internet, but I don't live where internet in the car is much of a thing either. Depends on your head unit I suppose. You use a macbook in a car?

Tidal has a top resolution of 24/96 but 96 only if its a MQA master. It does not do 24/192 but Amazon and Qobuz do offer those hi-res sampling rates. However, even the best AVRs and AVCs from major manufacturers which use room correction MUST then downsample the music sampling rates down to 48Hz in order to still use room correction. So higher sampling rates will be downsampled unless you shut off room correction. So capturing and maintaining hi-res sampling rates may in most cases be a pursuit of mathmatical purity that is overcome with limited processing power of playback devices. Even Apple TV 4K downsamples hi-res music to 48Hz.

CDs are 44.1kHz. Stick with that across the board to get native in/native out quality. The Sony shows nothing about supported audio formats in the specifications in the manual, but the only mention of other audio formats is 32 and 48kHz support and conversion on page 20.

I would find a way to record directly from Tidal to WAV, FLAC, or ALAC format then play them back from the computer directly. More likely, I'd throw them onto a CD or USB drive in a compressed format which my car's head unit supports and enjoy them that way. A 320mb/s mp3 file is pretty much impossible to distinguish while driving in a car from a original CD wav file.

This seems like a super complex way to do things. Kind of like recording to a cassette back in the 80's.

ok thanks for the info,
yes a little bit complex, but my car has a very basic cd player, and the speakers amp and bass speaker are basic quality because auto theft is so easy. So I am trying to optimize the most out of my cds to get the best sound possible. stereo player doesn't play neither mp3 or USB, so back to oldschool.
yes the sony is very discreet about its resolution.
