Need a new receiver for my Sony SS-CT33 Speakers!

Hello!

This is my first post here so I hope this is in the right place. I inherited a Sony SS-CT33 speaker set from a friend a while back, but I believe the receiver is broken. Can I get just any ol’ 5.1 receiver and hook these speakers up to it?

I’d like to be able to play music and movies off my phone and computer. Do you know of any way to make that happen?

I wouldn't pay much to use those speakers myself, but why do you think the receiver is broken particularly and what is it's model number? Have you tested the speakers with another receiver/amp? Probably any avr would work to an extent, tho.

Those speakers are from an HTIB system which are all basically junk. The speakers are four ohm, including the sub, which is not powered. Receivers are designed to power all the speakers, except the sub. Subs designed for use with receivers contain their own power amps. So you would need to purchase a receiver and a power amp to power that rig.

Honestly that rig is absolutely not worth the expense. Start from scratch.

lovinthehd – I honestly haven't even tested these in a while. I think my friend said the receiver was the problem when he gave them to me. So, I'm just going off that. I haven't tested the speakers with any other receiver as I don't have any other ones. Thanks for the reply!
