Worst home theater advice you’ve ever been given

So. I just had a free consultation with Acoustic Fields. By no means am I trying to slander the company, but his advice and price estimate didn’t seem anchored in science or reality. As soon as he said I could achieve better results by removing two of my 4 subwoofers I stopped taking him seriously. I’ve taken literally hundreds of REW measurements in my room and have become very familiar with its issues and how to best resolve them mostly due to you guys and the Audioholics live streams with Matthew Poes, Anthony Gramaini and of course Gene. I have done plenty of listening with a single sub as well as a pair, three and than finally four as well as A/B comparisons muting specific sub channels via MiniDSP and know what works in my room. This guy suddenly claims WITHOUT seeing any of my measurements that he can achieve superior results with two less subs and $3000 in treatments from his company. What’s the worst advice you guys have ever gotten from a fellow enthusiast or professional?

That I need "exotic" cables to bring my system to the next level.

Been there man! A year ago I grabbed a pair of Klipsch RF3’s with a pair of Kimber Kable 12TC (not sure if I got the gauge correct) bi-wire cables for $100 from an estate sale. I tried the Kimber Kable’s and while I did like the way they looked they obviously didn’t sound any different than my existing KnuKonceptz 10 AWG. Sold the Kimber’s for $300 shipped and the RF3’s for $400 shipped. Used the funds to snag a 3 NAD 2400 THX Monitor series amps. So all in all a good deal.

Curious, this was an in-person consultation with his own measurements or just as blind as it sounds?
