IMAX Enhanced coming to Disney+ on Friday

I just bought a Denon x3700h this week. I thought I would need a 2021 Sony Flagship TV with Bravia Core to watch IMAX Enhanced in the 1.90:1 ratio but it looks like my 2016 Samsung un65ks9500 TV is supported. I hope this is true. Unfortunately my TV does NOT support DTS-X or Atmos but my xBox supports both so I will probably watch the IMAX Enhanced movies on my xBox. I can’t wait to try it on Friday!!

Joy! Finally. Until now, Marvel movie IMAX ratio scenes were only available on 3-D Blu-ray. It would be nice if they put them on new UHD Blu-ray discs as well.

Oh wow, I didn’t know the 1.90:1 ratio versions were on the 3-D Blu-ray. Do these disks also support DTS-X audio?

I better check PS5 and see if there is an update for D+. I don't use the app on the TV, I stream everything via the PS5 since most of the apps for it support the higher audio formats.

Do you guys think if we use the Nvidia Shield Pro to launch the Disney+ app, we’ll be able to hear the movies in DTS-HD MA through our IMAX-E capable receivers? IMAX Enhanced uses DTS-HD MA to add the object based component of DTS-X that is used in IMAX-E movies. Since the Bravia Core streams their IMAX-E movies at 115mbps, if the Nvidia Shiled streams at a much lower internet speed, then we’ll know the only way to hear DTS-HD MA in the Disney+ Marvel movies is through a Sony TV with Bravia Core. I’m new to all of this (one week new). So, there may be another way to hear the IMAX-E movies with DTS-HD MA.

I decided to check and see if maybe some of them dropped early, and at least Guardians of the Galaxy 1 was showing Imax Enhanced next to it last night. I started watching it, but it was late, so didn't finish it, but the scenes that were enhanced looked fantastic! It does bounce back and forth between the two formats, but I didn't think it was distracting. Looking forward to watching Shang-Chi this weekend.

I saw a big difference too. And yes Disney+ launched IMAX-E a day early! Btw - I tested the Disney+ app on my xBox, Apple TV and Nvidia Shield and the picture and audio is significantly better on the xBox. I think maybe because on the xBox we actually have to download the DTS and Dolby codecs (but not sure).

I watched a movie on Disney+ with "IMAX Enhanced" which had a very nice picture quality. While some of that was due to the expanded format in some small parts (minutes, really) I think that the quality of the stream as such was better than usual. I didn't log download statistics, though, which would account for the perceived picture quality improvement.

Ordinary 1080p Blu-ray often looks better than streaming and the sound is usually much better even for my 5.2.

Noticed twelve titles dropped yesterday with Shang-Chi available today. "Black Widow" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" stand out. They really look good.

Did an A/B comparison between some of the iMax Enhanced material on both an Xbox Series X and Apple TV 4K and perhaps I’m wrong but the stream does seem to have more fidelity both in terms of video and audio.

Only "Infinity War", "Endgame" and "Shang Chi" play in the IMAX ratio in their entirety since they were filmed with IMAX cameras for the whole run.

I noticed the same thing last night. There are a lot of reviews online that make it seam like the NVIDIA Shield is significantly better at streaming content than the Apple TV and xBox. Not sure why or what’s changed but the xBox is clearly better than both the Apple TV 4K and Shield

It’s not a lossless DTSX, is it? Guessing it’s the lossy version but still might be more bandwidth than DD+ with Atmos metadata.

There doesn't seem to be a timeframe for the DTS:X tracks on the Marvel movies that I can find so if anybody finds any info, do tell. I'm curious if these versions will see their way to 4K disc or will be Disney+ exclusives.
