Advise on needing an AMP(s) for new soon to be delivered Arendal 1723s and 1723 speakers

Newbie to forum. Just purchased Arendals 1723s towers, center, surround speakers and sub for movies and expect to purchase in the future 2 height speakers to complete system for movie room. Also purchased 1723 towers for adjacent living room for music listening. Have Pioneer Elite SC 85 W 9-channel AVR, 135 watts per channel.

Need advice regarding purchasing of amps for:

• Movie room – Should I purchase a 3 or 5 or 7 channel amp for the five/seven 1723s speakers
• Music/Living room - purchase another 2-channel amp for 1723 music towers.

Movie room dimensions -13 feet by 20 ft., lots of hard surfaces, tile, windows with a large opening to the left (access to living room), 1723s speakers will be facing direction of 20 ft. room length. Living room with 1723 music towers is also large 15 ft. by 30ft. Going to add some carpets and other measures to soften surfaces.

Also have the option to connect the living room 1723 music towers to separate older Pioneer AVR I have that that has 140-watts into seven channels. Then I would use my Sonos to stream music to both avr’s

Leaning towards purchasing the Monoprice Monolith amps, although they are heavy units, their price range, reviews and specs appear to be positive. Will likely wait for my Arendals to be delivered and hookup without amps but wanted some input and thoughts, especially for those who have Arendals

If I was wanting to go separates from scratch, I think I would use four Crown Drivecore amps, and rack mount them. I think it is better to limit two amps per power supply. If you by a 19" rack, it will be neat, tidy and accessible. I think class D amps are now a safe bet. They run cooler and use a lot less electricity.

How far do you sit, I don't understand why you need amps for those speakers?

Well, the whole 1723 lineup do say they are 4 Ohm nominal and vary from 89 to 84dB sensitivity, so they may warrant the addition of amps. At the very least, I'd probably go with a 3 or 5 ch and power all the primary speakers (front 3 or front 3 + 2 surround), then the Atmos/other surrounds can be via the AVR. I've done it that way in the past when I had a full set of 4 Ohm speakers, just the front stage with a 3ch amp and the rest off the AVR and it was never an issue.

I'm with lovinthehd. IMHO it's always better to do things in logical steps.

Most of the time it's about how loud you listen and AVR ventilation. If it is extremely loud and/or your AVR gets extremely hot, definitely get some good power amps.

If it's "normal" volume like for most people and your AVR stays cool (by itself or with fans), you probably won't need to buy any amps.

Thanks, I will likely go with 5 Chanel’s after I get speakers and see how avr pushes sound, as I indicated, I like towards louder end. My avr has been great so far, in ventilated cabinet

Will try without amps first, just wanted to get some thoughts from experienced forum users. My seating is about 10 feet fromLCR and TV

@erporsche Doing a quick input into the SPL Calculator with the given data (using 85 watts); comes up with the loudness being beyond 106 dB which is well past uncomfortably loud. If you include a 5 speaker setup (at 89 dB sensitivity for all) it's past 112 dB (louder than a Jet Engine). An exposure of only 56 seconds at that sound level can cause hearing damage.

Folks need to learn to keep volume levels sane and protect themselves and others. Hearing damage is not repairable.
