Discussion on these fancey cables , this is just a cheaper option.
Is there something that makes these cables
Faster for 1080 or 4k?? Or are they just a gimmick. I don’t see why anyone would get a cable for a tv they don’t have , maybe future proofing ??
Do faster rated cables make content clearer?
Regular hdmi work for 4k , not sure if 8k needs something more powerful or what ?
Or just more snake oil like the 4k cables .

“Ultra high speed” HDMI is for 8k and 4k@120Hz. The latter is used today by xbox series x and the playstation 5 if you have a tv capable of it. The xbox at least comes with an ultra high speed cable, dont know about the ps5.
4k is “premium high speed” HDMI but some previous generation ones can do also, or partially do, but too old and no dice. There isnt really any “regular” HDMI it depends on the generation.

So depends more on the speed of the cable to transfer 120hz ? are 4k cables and regular hdmi a step down ? And some hdmi can do all of them fine .
I don’t have any new console yet , or a hdr 4k tv. No ps4 or Xbox one x. Sad times..

Data transfer rates yes. The cables need to be able to reliably do massive amounts of data to cope with the demands of 8k or 4k120Hz but for older HD or non HDR 4k the demands are much lower so “high speed” should work well for you. Premium high speed or ultra high speed might be more stable though if longer runs for example but there shouldn’t be any “quality” differences in picture or sound for the same signal type.

I see so anything 4k hdr and above needs cables for hdr mode? Regular hdmi max out at 60hz ?

I dont remember specifices but resolution, frequency, color space and things like HDR/dolby vision all increase the throughput demand. HDMI.org has all the specs i think. (They are the ones that certify the cables that go through the testing they perform)
