To fill you in Sir Nicholas Clegg, was deputy prime minister of the UK in the minority government under David Cameron, after the election of 2010, and he held the position until 2015. He was leader of the Liberal party, who found themselves holding the balance of power after the Conservatives failed to win an overall majority.
He was actually pretty inept in the roll, and the liberals lost a lot of seats in subsequent elections. He lost is seat in the election of 2017, and had to resign as leader of the Liberal party.
In 2018, he was appointed as Vice President of Global Affairs and Communications at Meta platforms, by Mark Zuckerberg. He and his wife moved to California where they purchased a seven million dollar mansion.
I think what they really wanted was access to Nick Clegg's wife, Miriam Gonzales Durantez, who is still a Spanish citizen. She has a huge reputation as an International lawyer, and is expert in European, and EU law in particular. She has earned enormous sums of money, and is a senior partner, at the International law firm of Cohen and Gresser, based in Washington DC and London. I suspect it was actually access to her expertise that was the reason for hiring Sir Nicholas Clegg.
