Choosing between sealed SVS Subs

Hello all,

I am needing to replace my soundbar with wireless sub and I am going with another Yamaha unit which has a sub preout. I downsized years ago from a large HT setup to a small simple unit since my dog and then kids kept me from cranking things up. I still have a toddler so I am not ready to go back yet for fear of things getting scratched or dented. My soundbar stopped auto pairing with its sub so I am replacing it. Long story short, I am looking an SVS SB-1000 Pro, SB-2000 Pro or the 3000 Micro. We currently have a 12' wide x 8' tall ikea entertainment center which stops about 18" short of the corner of the room and that is where our current little yamaha sub hides. We have a baby fence that runs along the whole thing and keeps the sub out of reach. Technically I have room for the biggest one, the SB-2000 Pro, at roughly a 15" cube. It may be a little cramped in there but it would fit with a little room all around. My goal is this, huge bass from a small package. I still need things to be compact for the next few years. We mainly use TV/Movie audio but are finding ourselves jamming out when the kids are home. This is why we got our current YAS-203. After a ton of research, it plays pretty dang loud while remaining clear and can dig surprisingly low for the movies with a tiny little sub. It was only a few hundred buck so if a kiddo breaks it, it's not the end of the world. The new soundbar will either be a Yamaha YAS-109 or a SR-B20A which looks like it can be even louder. I am also aware that ALL of these subs are likely way too much for a little soundbar but I am missing the ability to shake the house when needed.

Thanks in advance!

If you are gonna do SVS I'd suggest ordering now or this weekend because prices of everything SVS is going up. The PB-2000 Pro is going up 200 bucks on Monday the 4th. I have the PB-2000 Pro and it's quite excellent but I did thing I'd pay 1,099.99 for it.

Frankly, I would cross that Micro toy off the list. Then get a PC2000 pro.

Yup. If you wanna shake the house I'd scratch sealed subs off the list altogether unless you're prepared to throw some big bucks at something with enough power to do what you're wanting.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Small footprint, but big bass he’s looking for. Although I’m pretty sure the sb1000 pro will do more than the yamaha.

If you must go with sealed, I would go SB2k pro. If really want performance and small footprint(verticality notwithstanding), PC2k pro is the best choice. At 20hz it will have at least four times the output of any of the sealed versions.

I am sticking to sealed for this round. When we redo the room in a few years and I go back to a full AVR setup, I will be getting a 16 ultra or whatever the big dog is at that time. My second child, toddler, is a climber so I am really wanting something small and discreet with as much oomph as possible. Otherwise I am totally a ported sub guy. This is someone of a bastard setup but it's an excuse to step up in sub in this temporary phase with the littles.

For reference, the Yamaha sub is on a 200W 6-1/2" little guy. I'm thinking a SB-2000 pro would be light years more powerful. I have crossed the micro off my list. I have never been a fan of the looks of the PC's even though they are quite impressive in performance. That plus I'm afraid my kids would knock it over.

Thank you for the info on the price increase coming on Monday. That really puts the heat on making a decision.

The sb2k pro is a good choice, albeit overpriced imo. It is a great little subwoofer. The app might be handy for some, ymmv.

If want to save some money but still have a great little sealed sub, here you go.

Somewhere in the middle is this little guy. It’s a ported 10”, that’s very compact but will give you some benefit a ported sub.

That looks to be too large for the OP's circumstances.
It's close, thought perhaps it could squeeze in but was thinking it was a bit smaller off the top of my head, too.....

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I agree, I don’t really want a sealed sub but all of the ported ones get a fair bit bigger in a hurry.

William, that RSL has piqued my curiosity. I will have to look into that one more. It’s small and ported so that may be better all around.

I have the SB2000Pro and it still goes down to 20Hz, just not down to 16 or 17 like their ported versions. It's a very good sub for its size.

It’s a great little subwoofer, and most definitely an upgrade to the current one. They also have 45 day in home. But you pay return shipping. However! It’s still just over half of the SB2k. So as a stop gap to your future return to HT greatness, I would certainly keep it high on the list.
