In 2017 I joined this forum and bought the system you all told me to. In 2019 I posted again to upgrade and again bought what you all told me too (the second MK5) And now the blue moon has come again and I’m ready to upgrade again. Music only.
Room 18 x 28
Rbh R55Ti's
Emotiva a300
Marantz nr1607
2x Hsu vtf-3 mk5 hp subs

Thinking of replacing the RBH’s. Budget is $3000.

thanks.

Perhaps something from Philharmonic or Salk?
How come everyone on this forum recommends Philaharmonic/Salk? I’m sure the answer is going to be “great value” or something to that effect. But it’s almost like Salk owns the forum with how consistently they are recommended over all other brands.

So they recommended the A300? For that room size I guess you may be sitting 12 to 15 ft from the speakers so I think you may benefit from a more powerful amp, but as always, the first step is to find out your maximum power need for the speakers you are going to get this time.

Yes they did. And yes- sitting 14’ from speakers.

Because they may not be something you know about, they do good work, and Dennis is a member....to throw out a few reasons. Lots of brands out there.....what interests you?

don’t misunderstand my comment- I’m not doubting or questioning the quality of their products. And I spoke to Dennis on the phone years ago, great guy and very helpful.
I’m looking for something to compliment my current system. I’m willing to upgrade my amp if need be, but otherwise speakers that compliment the two subs and work well with my amp (150W per channel at 8 ohm). Not too concerned with HT and I listen to a wide variety of music.

If the amp is working in the current setup, then probably it is fine. My son in law has had the A500 for a few years and it works fine.

Philharmonic and Salk are mentioned here a lot for a simple reason: the speakers are good. That's what it comes down to with speakers, especially for music. They aren't the only ones recommended regularly.

I also like Joseph Audio, but I they don't have a tower in the $3k range anymore.

If I had your size room in a heartbeat I'd have these in there with two subs...........

Years ago I auditioned them in a room 18x30 and was smitten, sadly they won't meet your budget requirement

$3K compared to what you have now I think will get you a different sound, but not really a night and day improvement from what you currently have. I think you might need to spend more to step into the next level of bigger improvements unfortunately. I am not saying more money is the answer either, in the end, I'd just go listen to speakers if you can, because hearing them will give you the idea of what you're going to get for what you're looking to spend and if it is the kind of improvement you're after. Is it just "time" to upgrade truly, or is there something you'd specifically like to improve?

OK, don't consider them :). What do you not like about your RBHs that you expect to change/improve upon in your budget? Is the budget just for new speakers? What have you listened to/like in the way of speakers so far ?

Looking at those RBHs I was thinking the same thing. While Salk's Song towers are in the op's price range it seems like a lateral move. To move up to the Silk or Veracity we're getting near the $5k range. Same with the Paradigm Founder line (the Premier line would be a lateral move as well). Revel Performa3 208 is also up in the $5k range. Focal Aria 948 is in the $6k range but you can find used pairs in the $3k-$4k range.

The Philharmonic Towers are $3700 but I think the current batch is sold so it would be a wait. Wharfedale has the Evo4.4 with its air motion tweeter for $3k. That would likely sound different compared to the RBH. KEF R11 is around $3k as well. The Arendal 1723 Tower THX is $3700 and currently that includes all taxes, duties and shipping to the U.S. I came very close to ordering a pair this year. For me, it would come down to the Philharmonic BMR Tower or Arendal 1723. Both have a very flat response and wide dispersion.

I bought my current Philharmonitors from a person who had upgraded to the BMRs. When I heard the BMRs were available, I thought I would consider upgrading to them. Almost a good thing for me that they'd be a while coming, since I decided to wait based on other factors. BMR only, not the BMR tower.

The Joseph Audio towers, they only offer 2 I think (The Profile and the Perspective 2), are going for $6K and $9K used.

I'd toss Ascend Acoustics ribbon speakers in the mix too. Great sounding and measuring speakers.
