Hello,

This is my first post here! :)

I own a Marantz PM5005 Integrated Amplifier and I wanted to get Mission bookshelf speakers for it. I have narrowed it down to 2 speakers:

Mission LX2

Mission QX2

The Marantz PM5005 is rated at - 8 / 4 Ohm RMS : 40W / 55W
More specifications: Marantz PM5005

These are the Nominal Impedance specifications for the 2 Mission speakers:

Nominal Impedance of LX2: 6 Ohms
Minimum Impedance of LX2: 4.4 Ohms
Drivers: 130mm (Bass) | 25mm (Treble)
More specifications here: Mission LX2

Nominal Impedance of QX-2: 4 Ohms (Compatible 8 Ohms)
Minimum Impedance of QX-2: 3.6 Ohms
Drivers: 165mm (Bass) | 38mm (Treble)
More specifications here: Mission QX-2

Will the Marantz PM5005 be able to drive the QX2 well or will the LX2 be a better match with the PM5005?

They are both essentially four ohm speakers. Best rule of thumb is minimum impedance + 10% to arrive at the best estimate of the true impedance. Nominal or compatible impedance means nothing and is always to be totally disregarded. It is put there by the liars in the marketing department. Those individuals are among the lowest forms of life on the planet.

So, go for the bigger speakers. Bigger is usually better when you have the option.
