Receiver causing tape deck interference.

I have a 1999 Sony STR-DB930 AV receiver that I use in the den, but anytime I place it near a cassette deck, it causes the meters on the tape deck to flicker when in recording mode when there is no music being recorded. What inside this receiver could be leaking out interference that the tape deck is picking up. None of my other receivers cause any problems with my tape decks.

What brand is your tape deck?

In the early 1970's, I owned a German Uher tape deck. Once in awhile, I was getting some "beeps" when I was recording with it.

Bell Canada telephone company had an antenna tower nearby and I suspected them to cause the interference. One of their people came over to the house and denied that they could cause interference. I got fed up with the machine, sold it and replaced it with a Sony tape deck and no more problem since.

Tape deck is a Teac V-5000, but the receiver does this to my other 3 decks also. Something inside the receiver is leaking out some kind of interference that the decks are picking up, just don't know what it could be.

How far do you need to separate these units before the problem alleviates itself? Why dwell on this old tech?

Thats a weird one. Have you noticed if it occurs when using a remote to control the Sony?

First question is relevant and a good question.. The 2nd question is irrelevant because user preference is something that is personal to each and everyone of us.

Or merely from an actual useful viewpoint....where this sort of nonsense is just silly.

Seriously, I have no life.

It is electromagnetic induction from the power transformer of the receiver inducing AC voltage in the coils in the recorder's tape head.

You need to move the deck further away from the receiver. Also you should demagnetize the tape heads. Make sure the tape deck is off when you demagnetize it.
