I agree with TLS Guy. Typically, this is an issue with cheap phono amps, like the Schitt Mani. But even higher quality separates are best turned on/off in order of preamp turned on first and preamp turned off last to preclude popping. The popping can cause damage to equipment. My Schitt Mani, destroyed my Sony TA-E9000ES Preamp. Yes, the Mani is indeed a piece of poop from Schitt. At any rate, source components should never pop when turned on or off, so get your player fixed or replaced.
