2.1 that will drive 125+rms into 8 ohms.

Thread kinda says it all. One or two hmdi ins, one out. Just the very basics but will put 150x 2 rms into 8 ohms.

I'd look for an older gen avr with sufficient power.

Not sure thats easy to find, 2 channel stuff rarely have HDMI and if they do its just one for ARC or eARC to get sound from the TV.
150w is optimistic from an AVR but for HDMI connectivity thats the best bet and also for good bass management, some 2ch do have bass management but its very often missing.

How old an AVR you can use depends on what HDMI features you need, 4k? 8k/4k@120hz? Or just old High def?

Agreed, you probably aren't going to find both of those requirements in one package. Stereo HDMI units tend to be lower end because they are not very common so they tend to not have heavy duty power. Something that has 150w RMS is likely to be on the higher end and won't be cheap or stereo.

You might need to look at at pre/pro and amp to get both. Where did the 150w requirement come from?

I was thinking about that too, not many avrs have that kind of power either until you get into top tier. He might do better to look for a previous gen mid tier with preouts and get a separate amp.

Wow thanks everyone. Got my Yamaha remote and there were big problems. Speakers set to small, it was in 5 channel config. Other Yamaha config stuff. Fixed all that and It sounds so much better.

wow that denon has a mean looking graph. I just am looking at my speakers thinking “90w can’t be enough”.
