I have need for a 5 channel amp and was prepared to shell out $1750 after tax for a Monolith five but I just came across an opportunity to get a mint Emotiva xpa-7 gen2 for $700 out the door?

Wondering what you guys think about that amp and about that deal.

I have an Emotiva XPA-5 Gen 2 and works great for me.

Good thing about getting the 7 is if a couple channels go bad somehow you still have 5 left. You might have trouble getting it worked on. But at 700 that seems like a gamble worth taking if you want one now.

Yes it's like new and looks flawless. Seller seems responsible. Been trying to do research comparing the xpa5 to the xpa7. Looks like the 7 was $600 more for than the 5 for just two more channels. Sounds like its beefed up a bit. I wanted an outlaw 7500 but they are impossible to find.

That's what I paid for my XPA5 used a few years back. I'd go for it.

I think it's a good deal the gen 2 models were solid products before they came out with the new 3 line which is built different then there old stuff

Gen 2 is actually more liked. $700 is a steal in these times.

I remember buying xpa5 gen 1 new for $799. No tax. Free shipping. Then getting xpa5 gen 2 for $899. No tax. Free shipping. I want to say xpa7 gen 2 was $1099. Which is crazy on free shipping that 100lb beast.

these amps sell on eBay for more then they were new.

Yeah, I had a XPA-3 Gen 1 and sold it for a pretty good price I seem to recall. Only sold it to buy the Gen 2 XPA5.

Do you currently use an AMP that this would replace or AVR?

I'd go buy it for $700 if you don't have one and want one. It may or may not make a difference.

That's actually a pretty good deal, especially if you happen to be in the market. I usually hesitate with used electronics tho, except for speakers, but that's a great price. You know the guy? Anything about the amp's history?

Dont know the guy. Has a small amount of feedback but its all very positive. Went back and forth with a few messages and I get a good vibe from them. Amp looks brand new in all the photos. Its actually really hard to find reviews on the xpa7 gen2

What would you need a review for particularly, tho? Looking for bench test or something? Don't know how different gen 3 was but this help? https://hometheaterhifi.com/reviews/amplifier/power-amplifier/emotiva-xpa-gen3-power-amplifier-review/

Dude you better go buy that before someone else does if you want it :)

That won't last if it's in as good of shape as it appears

I would want to read a review because I like reading about products I spend money on. I havnt used the word "need" on this thread.
I think what HD is getting at is that the specs and power ratings are far more meaningful than any subjective reviews. The only thing you really learn from subjective reviews is how much the reviewer likes the company. If well built and engineered there shouldn't really be any audible differences from one amp to another so we tend to focus more on the ratings and measurements when it comes to researching gear.

That said, I'd be pretty tempted to grab that Emo you're looking at. It's a pretty sweet deal for sure, but I'd be worried about shelf life. Speakers can last almost forever if taken care of. Electronics like amplification have shorter shelf lives and you have no clue what it's been put through. For sure make sure it works. All 7 channels. I would pass if the seller can't or won't hook it up for demo.

Good advice. Thank you

Warranty is transferrable if it is still under warranty and the former owner was the warranty holder.

I meant actual service capability, not just warranty. Emotiva is limited in this regard.
