Currently I have my x3700 set to 11 amp mode and I'm powering 5 channels with an external amp and using the Denon to power my 4 height speakers. Soon I'll be adding 2 more channels so 7.2.4 in total and will just be adding the 2 extra channels to the Denon amp (surround backs).

My question is really just about how the amp setting works on the receiver. If I go by the image shown in the settings it looks like I have to run it at 11 channel amp mode for it to accept the external amp over the channels I want externally amped. If I switch between settings like 7 or 5 channel amped the image claims to require me to have the height channels and zone 2 channels externally amped.

Thanks!

Unless they changed something in the UI, you should be able to cycle through options in the Amp Assign menu and get the Front L/R set for external Amps (similar as if you were selecting to Bi-Amp them... but slightly different. :) ).

How are you going to get 15 ch of processing? Let alone 13? Or you have a coupla speakers duplicated on some channels? 11ch mode sounds right, tho....

Yeah I meant 7.2.4 just a typo. 5 +2 = 7 not 11.
