Difference between LR and BW?

I was wondering if I run my subs and MBM's through my mini DSP witha 12db/octave LR crossover or a 12db/octave BW crossover what would be the differences in sound? As far as what I have for a sub and MBM's... I have a TC Sounds LMS-R Ultra 5400 powered buy a Crown XLS 2500 and 4 magnum 12"s MBM's powered b a Crown XLS 1002. I don't want to blow my speakers first of all. I rarely run the subs amps into clipping and if I do its for a second and I turn it down. So what is the difference between the LR and the BW crossovers? Thanks for the help guys!

Linkwitz Riley crossovers are constant voltage and Butterworth are constant power. Linkwitz Riley crossovers are only possible for even order crossovers.

In general Linkwitz Riley is favored for smaller spaces. However this is all fluid and somewhat academic, as all electrical crossovers must be designed to accommodate and dovetail with the acoustic responses of the drivers, both their innate rolloffs, peaks, break up modes and dispersion.

So should I be using BW with the sub and MBM's I am using?
