RECEIVERS WITH DUAL DAC’S

CAPS AND SIZE FOR ME TO SEE. NOT SHOUTING… MY QUESTION IS SPECIFIC TO THE YAMAHA A8A, A6A, RECEIVERS BUT IM SURE THERE ARE OTHER RECEIVERS THAT HAVE SIMILAR SITUATUIONS….

WHY DUAL DACS… ASBESTOS I HAVE READ, THE A8A COMES WITH TWO ES9026PRO, THE A6A COMES WITH 1. ES9026 AND ONE ES9007 THE A4A HAS ONE ES9007 AND THE A2A HAS ONE PCM5102A

I UNDERSTAND THE UPGRADE IN CHIPS FROM ONE ONE MODEL TO THE NEXT, BUT THEN TWO DAC’S…. THESE CHIPS ARE 32 BIT, WHICH MEANS THEY ARE PROBABLY PRETTY QUICK. SO WHY NEED TWO?

FOLLOW UP…. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THE A6A PROCESSES MOST CHANNELS WITH THE 9026 AND I THINK ONLY ONE CHANNEL WITH THE 9007…. WHATS THE POINT…. AND IF YOU KNOW WHAT IS EACH DAC RESPONSIBLE FOR?

Some use different dacs for different codecs (like multich vs 2ch). Does it really matter if the final execution works well?

Those ES9000 series DAC ICs have 8 channels so two pieces are needed to cover 8 channels. Some (not all) of the so called 7.2 models may have only 1 ES9006 because the .2 (subwoofer channel) is actually two sharing the same signal.

For models that have a total of 9 channels including the subwoofer channel will therefore need two such DAC ICs, whether they are the ES9006, 9007. The top Yamaha models such as the 8A will have two 9026 Pro whereas the former flagship A3080, while also have two, but only the ES9026 Pro is used for the main channels, and the lower grade ES9006 or 9007 is used for the surround/height channels.

The PCM5100 series (5100,5101, 5102) are "stereo" DAC ICs that have only two channels so they are typically used for zone 2 and zone 3.

I don't know your source of information about the A2A's PCM5102A, if that is true then it will have at least 4 of those to cover 8 channels (including the subwoofer channel), and would need one more if it has zone 2.

Yeah each DAC is for up to 8CH. The A8A is 11.2CH so you need 2 DAC.

Okay, but I can assure you if the A2A uses the PCM5102 then it must have 4 of them just for the main 8 channels, and 1 more if it has a secondary zone. The one for the secondary zone may not be the 5102, could be the 5101 or 5100. They usually, if not always, use cheaper chips for the secondary zones.

The one for the secondary zone may not be the 5102, could be the 5101 or 5100. They usually, if not always, use cheaper chips for the secondary zones.
