Bigger speaker for surround or atmos?

Howdy, I’m thinking about adding a couple atmos speakers to my 5.2 setup. I have a pair of Polk Audio Tsi100’s and a pair of Tsi200’s available for this. Which should I use for the surrounds and which should I use for atmos? Thanks!

The smaller ones might be easier to mount to your ceiling....and I'd rather have the larger speakers as surrounds anyways.

Agreed. If that’s what you have already then use the 200’s as surrounds and the 100’s on the ceiling.

Thanks for the responses, the suggested configuration sense. I had not planned on ceiling mounting, though. Is wall mounting the 100’s angled toward the listening position viable? I’m fine if it’s not optimal as long as it’s technically ok.

While it won’t be “as good”, it’s supported by Atmos and dtsx so it will work.

“It will work” is all I need :). I assume that it will still outperform Dolby PLIIz, but please correct me if I’m mistaken.

Lol. Roger that! “All I need”…

Yes it will definitely be better than pliiz as when you get an actual GOOD Atmos track, you’ll have somewhat more immersion and the ability to place some objects. Temper your expectations though. As IME, having them on ceiling, and especially having four height speakers will create a much better experience. Seems like you already know this though, and just looking to improve.
Also, DSU and DTSNX are great for upmixing legacy tracks, and even current non Atmos tracks.
At the very least it’s worth hanging the speakers. IMO, some Atmos is better than no Atmos.

I guess I’ll ask this here first before starting a new discussion. Am I able to bi amp for LR mains and run front atmos simultaneously, or is it one or the other? Receiver is Pioneer VSX-933.

You’d have to look in the manual to know for sure. I would/will if I get time. But the short version is don’t waste your time on bi-amping. You won’t gain anything, especially simply using a single AVR that uses a single power supply. Plus it’s a waste of cable lol.
