Does AVR/Atmos processor allow freedom in 5.1.4 Speaker distances ?

I want to add 5.1.4 Atmos setup on top on my current 2.0 STEREO setup without moving the front speakers.

In 5.1.4 setup, if I place my front-height speakers further to the front (behind front speakers but at 5ft higher) then my front speakers - optimized placement for stereo soundstage) and my rear-height speakers at 5ft above the rear speaker (instead of closer to listener per dolby guideline)

Will Atmos sound processor like SR8015 or AV7706 compensate for the distances ?

OR does the 5.1.4 setup must follow the dolby 51.4.placement guideline which shows height speakers closers to listener?

Thanks.

Its about the angles so if you are within those all is good. Check the dolby site diagrams.

Even if you turn off room correction after running it, allowing it to set Distance (Delay) and Levels is something everybody should do.

Where you place the speakers is one thing, the ability of the processor to adjust distances (delays) is fairly common, tho. Separating your bed layer from Atmos is a better start than relying on the adjustments, tho....

…instead of closer to listener…
…height speakers closers to listener…
The salient Atmos requirement is installing the Atmos speakers close to the listener so you ACTUALLY HEAR the Atmos sound.

Your Atmos speakers will be competing with all your other bigger loudspeakers and subwoofer which are very loud.
