I am unable to get my SUbwoofer to output from my AVR.

I have the BIC V80 Which has a "Line IN' RCA input going into the "Subwoofer Pre OUt 1" on my Yamaha RX-V681.

I am using the following RCA cable. I have two of them, I have used both, but I still do not get any bump from my sub.

I have NO speakers hooked up (Havent come in the mail yet) but I should at least be getting some bump from sub.

I have a handheld speaker plugged into the AVR through the headphone jack. This speaker works fine.

What am I doing wrong ??

Do I need a RCA Y cable ???

Thanks so much for posting the links! That is always so helpful.

1). Is the sub output turned on for the receiver? By default most are set to SUB OFF new out of the box. Go through the receiver menus and make sure the sub out is active, the crossover is set, and the level is not less than zero.

2) the two sub jacks on the rear send the same signal. You don't need a second cord or splitter. A lot of guys just happen to use two subs and this makes it easier.

3) set the crossover on the back of the sub at the highest level, the volume at medium level, and the power switch to "on" instead of "auto" ... this is just for testing purposes.

Edit: 4) In addition to point #1, make sure also that your front speakers aren't set to "large" in the setup menus. I believe that tends to not send any signal to the sub, even if sub is turned on.

I really appreciate you taking time even help me out.

The issue was that I had something plugged into the headphone out port.

Once unplugged I got signal the subwoofer and good bass.

Ah, yep that'll do it too... Headphones defeat all speakers. Glad you're good to go!
