HDMI Output issue on Denon avr-x3300w

Greetings,

I have a Samsung 65 9000 series TV and OptomaHD67 projector. In addition, I have a 4k Cable Company (such as “Comcast”) all of them are connected to my Denon avr-x3300w receiver.

The converter cable device is connected to an arc port on the TV and its other side is connected to an arc in the receiver.

When both of the screens (Samsung 65 9000 series TV and OptomaHD67 projector) are connected to the receiver something is not working properly I do not see a picture. If I connect only one of the monitors no matter which port everything works fine.

Please help me to get over this issue.

It sounds like some sort of CEC handshake issue. I would try turning off HDMI control. Also I’m not sure if your average cable box with HDMI uses HDCP as it’s been years since I’ve had anything like that but I can tell you if it does I would assume trying to send the same signal to both devices via a single source could cause issues. Again this is speculation on my part and I’m sure a much more experienced member can give you more empirical data on the subject.

Hello, welcome to the forums. What is the model of the cable box? How is each device connected to the Denon receiver?

So you have an hdmi splitter in between your tv and avr via the HDMI ARC to provide for both tv and projector? Or your projector is running off zone 2 hdmi or ?

For those interested the manual is here.
TV with ARC should be connected to AVR HDMI-ARC connection. Projector on HDMI Zone-2 connection. May need to turn off HDMI Control function if units don't get powered on properly. Zone-2 needs to be powered on for projector to get a signal. Set both the Main source and Zone-2 source to the same input. (Page 146 of the manual)

Thanks for all the answers, it looks like I've got over this issue when I plugin my Optoma projector to HDMI out zone 2 and move to zone 2 in the receiver.

That is a classic EDID conflict issue. That is common when trying to run two HDMI screens at once. This one of many very annoying issues with HDMI.

The Denon x3300w doesn't have a second monitor output like newer models and the Zone 2 output works a bit differently which is why I asked device connect questions. There may still be audio limitations when using the projector on the Zone 2 output but there are already limitations in video as the projector is a 720p model.

Hey Guys, Unfortunately I didn’t pass that as I thought, I noticed that every time I switch to the projector screen it flickers me several times. sometimes its stops after 4-6 flashes and sometimes not.
After reading the attached link (Thanks) I understand that it's an EDID issue.
-Just to inform my HDMI cable is active and support hdcp2.2
So how to deal with the flicker issue and how much it's a danger to my new receiver?

The situation is not unlike one in another thread about the lowest common denominator. The projector is not 4K compatible. Every device needs its output resolution set to match it and the receiver set to match as well. By default, the TV connected to the receiver's Monitor output gets dibs on resolution settings. So, the receiver will output 4K automatically based on the TV's capabilities and a lesser device connected to Zone 2 output will have issues. The projector in question supports 1080p/60 mode, so set everything there and see how it works. If it still has issues, move down to 720p or 1080i.

I've checked and don’t think it's possible to set a different resolution to each HDMI out so if I go down to full HD 1080 I will not enjoy from my tv.
