Much better solution than a solo input dongle. Now do I bother upgrading my RXV4A, since I'll never use the function?

Seriously, I have no life.
Who will be the first to say that HDMI needs to go away?

They make this crap work in a lab somewhere and decide to take it to market, but in the wild, the conditions that allow new HDMI standards to work don't exist. Why can't those pinheads understand this?

They care only about new versions of HDCP. As long as that works, they care little about the rest. No standards means no guaranteed compatibility. Let’s start with just one rule for the next round. Nobody gets to add a “feature” of the new spec to their gear until the spec is fully tested and final.

I met with a homeowner in late-2006, to discuss doing some work on their audio/video and as we talked about the needs and equipment, he asked if I was planning to use HDMI and I said I wasn't. When he asked for my reasons, I said "Not until they fix all of the problems or I have no choice".

Fifteen years later, they still haven't fixed the problems with it and they keep adding to what it (as a cable) needs to carry. There's no push-back, so it will never change as they blunder along.
