Subwoofer buyer need some guidance pls

Without seeing the actual numbers, it is basically true that a when looking at comparable subs, the ported version will have consistently more output below about 35hz and by the time we get to 20hz, it can have as much as four times the output. I would venture that that is the reason for the ratings. Imo sealed only makes sense if the room is very small, or space is a premium.

Okay lads, on XTZ I see SUB 12.17 EDGE and Cinema SUB 1X12 EDGE which seem nice. Any suggestions ? THe problem is for them to ship to Cyprus (EU) cost 288euro (wtf) while every other country costs 40-80euro. I have emailed them asking for a proper shipping quote, but until then I am going to google a bit their models available. Which one is comparable with SVS PB 2000 pro or better? Budget is up to 1000euro total (1200euro maybe if I have to get the SVS pb 2000 pro locally).

The 12.17 Edge looks like a great sub. Doesn't dig quite as deep as the PB2000 Pro (17 hz vs 19 hz), but is still a true sub and has a fairly powerful amp. I think it would be very comparable to the PB2000. If the price is right I think that would be a very good sub.

If they re calculate the shipping cost and it's like 800euro total It's a buy. Around that price it's comparable with pb 1000 pro in Cyprus, so XTZ would be a value for money. What about the xtz 1x12 edge cinema sub? 12.17 edge is better?

Yes, because it's a ported sub it's going to have more deep bass output than the sealed 1x12. The only reason I would even consider a sealed sub is if I absolutely did not have the room. Ported is almost always the better choice.

I didn't see a sensitivity spec for the 12.17, but it does have about the same, or a little bit more power than the PB2000. I'll bet they're very close in overall performance. I do believe it will outperform the PB1000 Pro.

Hello guys. XTZ / arendal is out of the question as they charge 200-300 euro delivery. So, it all ends up buying svs locally. Thanks all for your help, I ll see how my budget goes to decide on svs pb1000pro or pb2000pro. One last question, will pb1000pro be truly insufficient for my 4x7meter room with a 2meter opening to the rest of the house? I will draw you the room at some poing today so you can get a better picture

The living room is 4x6.20 meters but then it has a small semi wall and continues another 1.78meter. the opening to the rest of the house is around 2 meters. So, is PB1000 pro out of the question? I wouldn’t say it’s out of the question. Seems like it performs well, and is definitely a big improvement over the previous, and smaller pb1000. I don’t recall. Is there a way to test drive it?

No, it will work just fine.
The 2000 would be better, how much exactly is hard to say.
It is on your dime, so it is your call.

Is the green circle a good placement for the sub?

Sub crawl or measurement is best.
Two good starting points are either in the corner, if you need more output
or . . .
At the 1/4 width point along front wall (IYC that is ~1m, which looks close to your green circle).
The second option works best for me, first option was too boomy, but this is VERY room influenced, YMWV.

That really sucks about XTZ. I was hoping that'd work out for you.

The PB1000 Pro might struggle a little bit with a large space, but is still a good performer and a true sub. The PB2000 Pro has more muscle for filling bigger rooms and I think the better choice for you, but understand the budget constraints. You know, if you could make a little room for a 2nd PB1000 Pro somewhere down the road, a pair of those would be better than a single PB2000.

Hello all! I wanted to give you an update about my decision
At last, I took the courage and bought myself the SVS PB-2000 pro! My first day experience was very good! It moves the air quite well (when I manually made some adjustments, see below).
Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it!

I got a few questions if you could help me with the setup:

When I first ran Audyssey (Denon x2000) the avr set the sub gain to -12db. I lowered the sub volume through the svs app from -10db to -18db and I reran Audyssey. Then, the AVR set the sub to gain -3db this time, but the bass sounded very anemic.
So, I tried to measure speaker&sub channels with an SPL meter app through my Iphone (weight C, slow, range 70 - used test tones from avr) and found out that all speakers were around 75-76db when AVR volume was set to -2.5db, except the subwoofer which measured around 65db. In order to get a 75-76db reading on the sub as well, I raised its volume through the svs app from -18db to -11db (didn't touch audyssey -3db setting). Now I got to hear some legendary bass, which was really pleasing

Another thing, Audyssey seemed to get distances on speakers mostly correct, except the subwoofer which is set to a distance of around 1 meter more than where it is physically placed.

So guys,
1) Is it normal for audyssey to set the sub lower and is it correct to raise the sub volume until the spl meter checks 75db? Do you suggest a different approach or a different spl value?
2) Why audyssey measured wrong subwoofer distance? Do I set the correct distance manually or leave it as it is? I think I read somewhere people setting a bigger distance value for the subwoofer (bass distance hacks?). Dunno what to do here

Normal and not uncommon.
You made correct adjustments AFAIK.

2) Why audyssey measured wrong subwoofer distance? Do I set the correct distance manually or leave it as it is?

Because Audyssey is actually measuring time, not distance. It reports distance to us humans who can understand feet/meters much better than we can process milli-seconds.
- The sub's amp adds a small amount of delay (unavoidable and normal), thus adding a bit to its perceived "distance" by Audyssey.

Leave it alone.

Audyssey also strives for a flat response in the bass, whereas many prefer it bumped up a bit. Many raise the sub trim level in the avr by 2-6 dB after running Audyssey to give it a boost down low.....

Thanks for your replies. Well, I did raise the sub trim level from the svs app (not avr) for 8db to get it measured around 75-76db, same with speakers. If this sounds good to you then I ll set it there and forget it. Bass is definitely rich and thundering

One last question, anyone has any idea why playing a movie from PLEX (via Roku) sounds so much better than playing a movie from Netflix (via Roku again)? Bass is so anemic when playing Netflix, so much that I would need to raise it another 10db to actually reach bass level while playing a streamed PLEX movie...

All you can do is eq and/or adjust trim levels. My experience with Netflix isn't all that bad tho. Not enough that I feel any need to "improve" it.
