Recommend a 2 channel external amp

Looking for a good external 2 channel amplifier that can produce 200~300 w, that's in the 400~500$ range.

Any suggestions?

That a pretty low budget for that amount of power, at least for home audio amps. Emotiva has the BasX A2. That's about all there is under your criteria.

Depends on what kind of load you expect to put on the AVR. If the speakers have decently high impedance and sensitivity, their current load will be minimal and an AVR will work just fine.

You can totally get stuff in your range. It's just not going to be a big name brand where you're paying for the marketing of the brand more than the components.

Without knowing the details of the load/impedance-phase of your speakers ... or asking the question of do you really need 200-300 watts ... a good pro-audio amp like the Crown is a good answer as they are very capable for the least money. The Crown XLS-1502 is well known as a tried and true bargain in a unit that is easily used for home audio (RCA jacks, input level switch, low to no fan noise, etc).

Hi...I have no close to home involvement in Crown amps, yet I accept that not all are Class D. I believe that the XLi arrangement are A/B. Regardless of whether they give preferred sound over the Class D amps, I don't have the foggiest idea. The Class D amps are significantly more effective, however, and they can be better with low impedance speakers (4 ohm) than A/B.

The star amps as a rule have constrained air cooling, which can give fan clamor. (A work-around I've perused of: supplanting the fans with calm fans expected for PCs.) They additionally will in general need 12V triggers; either physically turn the amp on and off, or get a 12V transfer to control power the amp(s) from the AVR.

Those VTV amps look good. The three I'm looking at are:
