AVR with L/C/R preouts?

Been looking at AVR but I'd like the L/C/R preouts as I want to add a Emotiva XPA-3 amp for the front stage.

Is this not a common thing? Only really found a couple and they have way more channels than I need. It's a small space, B&W 603's and HTM6 center. I'm only doing 5.2, what I've found so far has way more channels than I need to use.

Thanks!

Doesn't really matter how many channels you need vs what the best values/features will be in an avr, you may get some features/channels you don't need but depends somewhat on just what you do need, just the nature of economies of scale. Besides the limited audio setup, do you need 4k video feature set? What do you need it to do other than power your speakers? Used avrs could be a possibility depending on the feature set needed.

Most new ones will be for more than only 5.1 setups, 7/9/11 channel feature sets are more the norm now. Maybe a limited feature set pre-pro like an Outlaw 976 instead and get a 5ch amp instead. What's the budget? If its a small space why do you need a power amp ? :) Generally an avr will have a full set of pre-outs rather than just L/C/R (a few may have pre-outs just for L/R and subs), and this is typically found in the mid to higher end range of avrs in any case.

If it's a small need and small space, then why do you need 275 watt power amp on them in the first place?

Take a look at the Yamaha RX-A880, it has pre-amp output for all channels as you may want. As mentioned above, most receivers are pushing past 5.1 and if you want pre-amp, it's not going to be found on entry models anymore, it will only be on higher end models that are essentially being used as pre-pros. It will virtually always be a 7.1 at least with these features. Of course it depends on budget. There are low channel count AVR's with pre-amp output, but they're not cheap.

Very best,

Curious, when you use Zone 2 preouts for Atmos, do the receivers have setting for those to be height speakers?
