Hey y'all!
I am looking for a new receiver and probably will go for the Yamaha Rx-V6A or the Marantz SR5015
Curently stuck with a s SR6005.
Most content is played from my pc, an for music i select my Steinberg ur28m audio interface converter and for dts stuff i select my hdmi out from pc so it gets converted at the end of the path, in the sr6005.
When i a/b both converters in stereo i think the marantz converter is kind of crappy.
Is that about age, or just about what you pay for or.......?
Has anyone done some a/b tests with the newer sr5015 vs Rx-v6a converters?

Cheers!

Skip the Marantz. Jump on that Yamaha.

How did you A/B the dacs directly? Not particularly a Yamaha fan, but I'd consider one if it compared well for value (and RX-V6A's Costco equivalent of the TSR-700 for $400 could be a good value). Unlikely any of the dacs are in and of themselves that audibly different, they've been transparent from before your older Marantz was made. Could be something else, hard to know.

Well, from my pc theres the Steinberg ur28m via usb and from there jack line-level into the analog in on the marantz.
The other way goes via hdmi on the 8k videocard to my samsung 4k tv and then via adat to the marantz optical in.
That way i can switch output from my pc.

The biggest difference is with music in the 4000 á 5000hz area and feels like glass shivers in the head on the hdmi path.
With movies and the sound over hdmi i have purchased a centerspeaker that tames the esses, so thats allright.

You actually were able to measure the differences? Seems like a less than direct comparison. Was it blinded and level matched at least?

No, there where no measurements involved.
It was level matched, but it was never meant to be a scientific test. Just for comparison and personal use.
I can imagine that most people dont even care about such difference in sound.
