Where to sell specialty subs? (big marty subs)

Where do you sell specialty subs? I have a couple full Marty subs. I put ads on Craigslist, US Audio Mart, AV Forums, data bass. They are priced well under cost, great drivers (B&C and FaitalPro). I know these giant full marty subs don't have wide appeal, can't be shipped and many want o build themselves... Still, I live in Seattle, a pretty big market.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

What's "priced well under cost"? Post a link to one of the ads and let us have a look!

Good thing you're a long enuf drive away not to be very tempting :) I think you'd have to know what they are, and while I do (even know who Marty is), they are large! Shipping would be pretty damn expensive I'd think....altho you are in a pretty big area for local sales, too. You might have something about the desire of guys to put them together themselves. Did you build your own or are GSG flatpacks? Pics? Specific drivers? What amps did you use (and I assume you're keeping those?)?

here is one ad...
Even paid to have it listed front page.

I have one sub listed at $650 and the other at $850, or $1,400 for both. (Two different drivers so 2 different prices)

The boxes are nice plywood, but using the old style GSG MDF flatpack, the cost to build would be $550 for the flatpack delivered, about $575 for the B&C 18DS115-4 18" driver (currently on sale), another $100 at least for duratex, hardware, etc. That's at least $1,200 materials, more for plywood i assume, plus at least 5 hours of labor. Asking $850

The FaitalPRO driver's street price is usually a bit higher, now about $675 shipped, and I am asking even less for that one, just $650 - less than the price of the driver alone

Seems like priced to move fast.

The problem for you is there has never really been a market for any DIY speakers. Basically you build them for your own use and enjoyment and not others. You might get lucky, but this has always been a issue with DIY speaker. In addition those look like passive subs, which is fine, but the purchaser has to furnish an amp.

Yes, they are completely ridiculous in my 1500 cubic foot room, fun though. I know it is a small market but still

I also understand wanting to build your own. Rather, I understand thinking you want to build your own ;)

I would have used speak-ons, Not sure about the lining that was used. Why not go with 21" drivers? I understand not wanting someone else's DIY.

But if I had a big theater... it is pretty nice to just to pick up some Martys. Delivered subs, with a couple very expensive exceptions, just can't compare.

I have a Powersoft 4804 powering my subs, 1200 watts into 4 channels in one rack unit. Pretty nice amp. Not intending to sell it.

On most things DIY....be prepared to give it away for next to nothing/free (yes, it can be awful)....Unless you go with the more well known diy things from companies like GR Research. Who has heard of 'Marty'? Not many, i'd think.

Yup. Nature of the beast with DIY. Most of us here know what a full Marty is and what they're capable of but you have a few things working against you like size, cost

Most of us here understand what you have there but it's gonna be a hard sell to anyone outside the know. I'm with HD in that I'd be tempted if I were in your area but they being made with 2 different drivers is a small knock. Why 2 different drivers? Availability or were you going for better performance with the more expensive one?

Either way, good luck with your sale. I wouldn't pay to be on the front page tho. I think your typical Marty buyer will find 'em if he's looking for them.

But an amp doesn't need to be terribly expensive and they can use what they want, rather than being stuck with some kind of plate amp that might fail in a couple of years. Plus, some amplifiers have a DSP, so they can tailor the response to the needs of the room much better than having level, crossover frequency and the stupid little toggle switch for polarity.

I saw the FaitalPro driver on PE as open box, so I grabbed that. I think the B&C is the best driver value for a Marty so eventually I got one for the other sub. After EQ that inevitably cuts the 40-100 hrz frequencies, having an extra 6db+ at 20 hrz is like having two Marty subs. I understand the B&C driver is more expensive than the common drivers suggested at GSG for Marty subs, but it is cheaper and easier to buy one high excursion lower frequency driver than building and installing 2 marty subs.

as a practical matter in my room, no difference. I went from four UM-18 in the sealed PE flatpacks to 2 UM18 sealed and 2 marty subs (MSO for eq filters into a MiniDSP). I could hit compression limits with the four sealed in testing at least, about 110db at 20. Never came close with the marty subs. Way too scared to damage my house. Once you can go 200 MPH in a car, you realize you don't want to go 200 MPH. Effortless at 120MPH is pretty cool though

Perhaps I should put them on the porch and loop some John Wick scenes

Don't make me drive up there!
I wouldn't waste the gas. It is a ported cabinet with no driver specified, except 18" long throw. That is no way to build a proper sub. Every driver needs a specific cabinet, especially if it is ported.

I'm familiar with the cabinets from their design onwards and have suitable drivers already....the ones it was originally modeled for too.

I do have the original boxes for the drivers. Probably should have put that in the ad. Perhaps it would be easier to sell the drivers on Ebay, hate to do it though. Nice drivers that work well in these enclosures.
