HELP! I could really use some help and I hope this is the right place for this discussion. I cannot figure out what the issue is with what I suspect is the TV (Yikes! Christmas is coming!!! )
PROBLEM: I just hooked up my TV to the AVR and speakers and went through the setup assistant with the AVR. Sound has no issues when playing Blu-Ray or music directly through the AVR but the sound from the speakers cuts out every 2-3 seconds through the when using for live/satellite TV or streaming from the TV apps.
Here is my equipment list and connections:
*TCL Series 6 65" (65R615) at front of room
*Streaming Apps: ROKU Built into TCL TV interface -- All apps do it -- Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc
*Direct TV Cable Box at front of room with 2 ' Length HDMI to Port 1of TV
*Monoprice #38630 SlimRun AV Dynamic HDR Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable - (8K@120Hz, Dynamic HDR, 48Gbps, Fiber Optic, eARC, AOC, YCbCr 4:4:4) with 75' Length from Port 3 eARC of TV to Denon eARC port in rear of room
Monoprice 8K SlimRun AV Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable 75ft - AOC 48Gbps Black - Monoprice.com
*DENON X4500H -- The 8K Monoprice HDMI cable is connected into the eARC port
* Monoprice #15427 4K Premium High Speed HDMI with 3' Length to Blu-Ray Port on Denon
Monoprice 4K Certified Premium High Speed HDMI Cable 3ft - 18Gbps Black - Monoprice.com
*Speaker Set Up: 7.2.4 (I am still awaiting delivery of my LCR and subs on Tuesday)
Troubleshooting I have done:
- Since my complete speaker set up is not here yet, I have just prepped everything with getting banana plugs on all speaker wires, etc. I wanted to test beforehand to make sure it was all working since the completed theater is for Christmas (Good thing I tested beforehand since it is not working). So for speaker testing purposes, I have just set the Denon Setup Assistant speaker assignment to just reporting that it is just the L/R, no center and no other speakers and have just tested each of the speakers by switching out the plugs for the surrounds, the rears and each set of the Atmos heights. All of the speakers work great in this manner with music AirPlayed & with Blu-Ray
- Playing Blu-Rays works perfectly with all of the speakers
- Streaming music through the Denon Spotify/AirPlay connection works perfectly with all of the speakers
- Sound ALWAYS is audible for 2-3 seconds and then cuts out completely every 2-3 seconds whenever the TV is watched with DirectTV and also with the Roku streaming apps on the TCL (Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, AmazonPrime).
*I suspect it is an issue with the eARC on the TV as it has no problems with sound from the Blu-Ray or music via the Denon.
*I have checked all the cable connections to be secure and have unhooked them and rehooked them all back in with no change
*I have gone into settings on the TCL and under AUDIO have switched "TV Speakers >>> On" and "TV Speakers >>> Off"... Have gone in and changed to "Auto-Passthrough" and then subsequently cycled through all of the other S/PDIF ARC options like DD, DD+, PCM with no change
*I have turned off all of the CEC options with no change
*I don't have any equipment that has Anynet on it
What could be the problem? What else should I try?
We stream a lot of our shows right now and would like to take advantage of all the surround sound codecs depending on the shows, particularly with streaming shows that would utilize the Atmos overheads. So if it is the eARC, switching to TOSLINK would count out surround formats that we want, right? Or can AVRs upscale and mimic other surround formats through TOSLINK without them being truly the full signal?
Would ditching streaming through the Roku apps and instead go through an AppleTV4K for all streaming (we have those in other rooms but not into a sound system) bypass the problem if it is a Roku TV issue? If so, I can live with using the crappy internal TV speakers for just satellite TV watching if that's what I have to do but the streaming is a different story.
Looking for a Christmas miracle! Thank you for your help!
