Weird the op wants to downsize .. maybe he just doesn’t have them properly set up.
I sure wouldn’t expect many bookshelves to outclass them but I guess it’s worth a try ...

WIsh I had the money for 2k bookshelves I’d imagine they sound amazing !!!

Just to be clear, I have no issues with my current system and works precisely how I want. I wanted to add CA CXN V2 to step up my streaming music game. However, spending that money on speakers might be better way to upgrade my system....

Fair enough! Do you still recommend speakers you suggested without a sub?
According to their specs they are not going to go low enough to feel it but you should get some good bass response out of those bookshelves

Speakers costing thousands still cannot compete with dedicated subs ... with exception of a few .
If you need low end bass https://www.monoprice.com/search/index?keyword=monolith+subwoofer

There tons of good brands tho on this forum threads everywhere!! On subs
Get a tiny sub if you have too ...
you could also run your towers I front of room and bookshelves in back .

Wanna bet? These shake the floor, chairs and your liver. No sub required.

Room curve at the main listening position.

If you look at the impulse response, everything is arriving at the same time.

Proof of concept!

What's the take on Buchardt S300/400? I am still going with BMRs though....

They seem to be well regarded. I think the 400 would be the way to go there. But still, the BMRs are truly special speakers. I think you’ll be glad for waiting. :)

Did you build those speakers yourself ? The massive volume is probably why they go so low . Impressive!!!!
Diy speaker’s are much harder to build then subwoofers for sure .

My bedroom isn’t good for my subwoofer it rattles everything, so wish I had a theater room but I’m sure I’ll never be able to afford one that’s sound treated .
Room acoustics are more important then big subwoofers imo .
Large speakers like yours sound better then big subs .
5 star perfect room .

KEF R3 has become one of the most-reviewed, best rated stand-mount speakers in the past year or two. My dealer refers to them as the "floorstander in a smaller box."
Yeah, I've been seeing a lot of positive comments and press for the R3. I really want to give them a listen sometime.

I just gained a new level of respect for Technics' ability to produce legit, high performance audio gear. I've always associated them with cheaply made budget gear. The stereophile article was interesting and I know to keep an eye out for Technics now when I'm flipping through the classifieds.

I think those white bass drivers look so cool. I was considering getting a BMR kit, but then a killer deal on a big, beautiful sub at a price I couldn't resist fell in my lap... :p

Congrats on the new speakers! You're gonna love them!
