I recently purchased an Epson Home Cinema 4010 projector and I am trying to get it to work with the Denon AVR-3806 amp.

The problem I am having is that when I plug the projector in to the HDMI out of the amp nothing happens. If I plug the same cord in to a Samsung TV it works just fine. Sound a picture appear. I have tried various cables with no luck.

Are there any settings in the amp that I can use to try and fix the problem?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and any assistance would be helpful.

Cheers!

Have your reviewed the manuals of both components to determine the correct settings? Based on your description, it appears to be something with the projector.

In order for the amp to allow the HDMI input it requires an HDMI output. I Have looked in to the manuals but they only indicate that an HDMI output needs to be connected. There are so many settings on the amp I was hoping that maybe someone had the same problem I had and could give me an idea on where to look in the amp.

I think the projector is so new (just purchased) that the amp may not know how to talk to it. I have reached out to both Denon and Epson. Epson got back to me already and said the amp does not have EDID. I am not too sure what that is so I do not know if the amp needs that or not. The only other thing is they passed the buck on to the amp and said to check the resolution and refresh rate from the amp. I'm still working on that.

Thanks for the response.

That receiver is 15 years old. It may not be compatible with that Epson projector.

I do note though that your TV has two HDMI inputs. One is HDCP version 1.4, and the other HDCP version 2.2. I doubt that receiver can handle version 2.2, so make sure it is plugged into the 1.4 version. If it will not work into that HDMI input, then I think you need a more up to date 4K receiver. There are problems with units that old working with newer units.

Yeah, looks like another case of the infamous HDMI-Handshake-Compatibility Problem.

In this day and age and the powers that be can only come up with this ever-sucking HDMI fiasco.

Might need to buy a new AVR or get a HDMI Splitter - send one HDMI to the AVR for Sound and the 2nd HDMI to the PJ for video.
