OTOH, if I had that much money, I could just buy a club and host live gigs and not worry about whether the place is profitable. I could have my favorite bands/performers and it would be great, unless they need an arena or stadium-sized stage.

People have house concerts with well-known performers- I just heard about some kind of event that has Lionel Ritchie playing- not as popular as he was, but certainly no slouch and i f he brought some of his former band mates, that wouldn't have been a bad thing. Not the same as having a club that can really make them sound good, though. A band playing through a PA system IS NOT the same as trying to get the sound to come out of a stereo or HT system.

Decisions.. Yamaha or Denon?

I had been looking at the Yamaha 3080 which is being sold off at below £1.5k. Now I see the new Denon X4700 which is around or less than the sale price of the Yamaha. So I am thinking, maybe I should go for the Denon? Any thoughts ?

I don't know what to say after reading this. Flagship models of both the Yamaha & Denon.

Both are good in their own ways. As most us won't need 8k now I think the Yamaha flagship (Yamaha RX-A3080) wins over Denon's Flagship (X6700H)

Yep very Solid AVR, I joke around about some gear, like just buy Yamaha, that started as a joke between Andrew and I. But in reality Denon, Marantz just to name two others are good even better in other uses than Yamaha. As far as reliable, outside of my Onkyo THX-NR818 that crashed which by the way Onkyo repaired at their cost was a very nice sounding AVR. As far as me being a Yamaha fan yeah I like them, but if the price is right I wouldn't hesitate getting a Denon or Marantz.

TBH, Denon/Marantz has only few advantages over yamaha, i.e

i) You can setup 7.2.4 straight from the reciever without using external amplifier on Denon.
Yamaha RX-A3080 allows you to do 7.2.4 with the help of external amp.

ii) Auro 3D

iii) Imax enhanced (Bragging rights for Denon/Marantz)

Other then that, I don't see the reason to choose Denon over Yamaha.

So, here the strongest point for Denon is i)

I wouldn't say Audyssey XT32 is better than YPAO.

True you would need a 2Ch external amp if you wanted a total of 11 speakers for the AVANTAGE RX-A3080.

No seriously, as some of you know, I hate having a lot of amps inside these AVRs. With heat being the enemy, I don't think it's a good idea to stuff 11Ch or 13Ch of amps inside these AVRs. If it were up to me, 5Ch amps inside AVR would be max. Or even ZERO amps inside the AVR. Good thing it's not up to me.

It would be nice if Yamaha could make smaller and less expensive amps like the Marantz 2Ch, 5Ch, 7Ch amps.

But one question I get asked on this top is, what amps do you recommend for these Yamaha AVR if someone wanted to add more speakers?

I think getting something like the Yamaha A-S301 Integrated 60W x 2Ch Amp ($300) might be one option. At least that's what I would do since I prefer to keep everything "matched up". And the A-S301 also looks really nice for a cheap amp.

I was unable to find anything other than the manufacturer specifications, so unfortunately we only have the manufacturer reporting and not 3rd party testing here. This is not a cheap device as typical prices when I searched are north of $20K USD on this. I found this interesting.

Trinnov’s Altitude 16/32 is considered, in some circles, as the best processors on the market. They have been around for some time. Everything is done in-house. You get customer service for the life of the processor. Like, if something isn’t working right, someone at Trinnov can log into your processor and find the problem and fix it. The only hardware that needs updating will be their hdmi 2.1 boards that they will send you and can swap out. Otherwise all updates come via software download. They also have their own room correction software. Some say is better than Dirac.

Personally, I want to own one in my my next theater build. I have a couple processors on my list. So, it will be a game time decision.

You are right about the need for small power amps for the surround and height channels, but Yamaha should make 2, 4, 6, 8 channel 60 to 100 W amps. The 3080 should capable of driving the LCR for most people. Integrated amps have out lived their usefulness time imo.

Yeah, the only reason I would choose the A-S301 is because Yamaha doesn't offer the 2/5/7 Ch amps like Marantz.

The A-S301 will work just fine for OCD people (like me) who must have the SAME brand for the electronics if possible.

If I owned Marantz, then I would add the 2Ch Marantz for the extra 2Ch.

But there's no way I'm adding a Marantz Amp to a Yamaha AVR.

So hopefully Yamaha will offer these 2/5/7 CH amps in the future.

Sure. It's not the first option, which would be using a regular amp. But you can use an integrated amp. Some people even connect the pre-out to a cheap Stereo Receiver to power the extra surround speakers.
